Benjamin, Cicero, and William Caldwell left the cornfields of Indiana (and in some cases their families too) for California. Benjamin left in 1859. They bought govt. patent lands in 1870, and then sold their properties off at a modest profit hours after getting title. Benjamin died in Blocksburg in 1875. His wife in Indiana had divorced him for abandonment. Cicero and William Caldwell never returned to Indiana either. Any Caldwells of the region might have a story to tell me - I certainly have a story for them! Jim Brown Venice FL
