    1. Weyot ancestor
    2. This account (below) is supposed to be related in a book, but I don't know either the author or the name of the book--does anybody else? A prominent family in either Humboldt or Mendocino County had a son who impregnated a native American girl (Weyot, I think, and I don't know if that's the correct spelling). They didn't want an "Injun" in the family, so they "paid" an ancestor of mine a ranch to marry this woman, which he did. She is either my great-grandmother or great-great-grandmother. The man's surname (my great-grandfather or great-great grandfather) should have been Nelson (my grandmother on that side was Esther Sylvia (Nelson) Shannon, later Esther Sylvia (Nelson) Welch). This would have taken place in the late 1800s. Clay Shannon, author of the novel "the Wacky Misadventures of Warble McGorkle" Now available on amazon.com: http://tinyurl.com/ysran
