I have a child that appears in the 1920 census that says he was adopted and he is going by the same last name as the rest of the family. In his death records of 1933, his mother and sibblings are named as "foster" family, and again, his last name is the same as theirs. Was "adoptive" and "foster" used interchangably at this time? Tamie
