Surnames: Kausen Classification: Death Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AW.2ADI/668.1 Message Board Post: GRIDLEY (Butte County) - 7/11/1910 - While swimming with Charles Neel and another companion in the Feather River yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clcok, Ernest Kausen, a nephew of W.H Hall, merchant of this city, and employed in the Hall store, was drowned. Neel almost met simular fate, Kausen taking down his comrade with him twice. The young man had just shot the rapids and were in swift and deep water above the riffles when Klausen gave out and was taken with a cramp, He said nothing, but grabbed Neel and took him down twice. The companion finally suceeded in breaking away from the drowning man and climbed ashore, but could do nothing to save Kausen. The river is being dragged by a score of friends, but the body was not found up to noon today. Kausen was 22 years of age and well known and liked. His people live in Humboldt County.
