Tracy: Myrtle Grove Cemetery here in Eureka is our most historic cemetery. Some years ago it fell into disrepair and the place was taken over the by CIty of Eureka's Recreation and Parks Department. They are said to have a plot map in the director's office t CIty Hall. Many headstones are missing. There is a legend that they were used to fill in the banks of the Bay where our Adorni Center (recreation building) is now. Mot other flat headstones are covered with grass thatch. The City of Eureka is considering a project to raise those headstones, but it does not ok as if there will be any money available for a project like that. I and a friend intend to photograph all the remaining headstones there one day. We will probably enlist the aid of a local Boy Scout Troop to help cut the thatch away from the flat headstones.
