A major genealogical event is coming to Sacramento in May!!! It's the National Genealogical Society (NGS) Conference in the States -- 19-22 May 2004. Full-color, 20-page registration brochures for the NGS Conference are in the mail and will be available at research libraries, family history centers and genealogical society meetings soon. This year's conference has some exciting offerings for people interested in California history and genealogy. One of the featured speakers is J.S. Holliday. "Using California Records to Find Southern U.S. Ancestors" by J. Mark Low, CG. Many of the Wailakki were taken to the Round Valley Reservation at Covelo during the period 1858 through early 1900s. I can put you in touch with at least one genealogist who has broad knowledge of the Round Valley Indians/EuroAmericans. Some Shannon family also lived in Shasta County which adjoins Trinity. Mendocino, Humboldt, Trinity, Tehama, and Shasta all had large numbers of native people who were either killed, enslaved or taken to the reservation. There is a Wailakki website at Northspeakers.org and it will take you to other sites for northern California native peoples.

She was from Humboldt or Mendocino county. Also, many Shannons lived in Humboldt county from the late 1800s on. I am writing a book on my two grandfathers, on of whom was Theodore Roosevelt Shannon, a rancher and logger who lived in Humboldt County as well as Mendocino, Trinity, and even Tulare for awhile. If anyone knows of any stories, anecdotes, etc. I'd love to hear about them.

Albee, 74, pioneer of the Buhl country, died at the Wendell hospital Tuesday (11/18/1930). Pneumonia was the cause of death. Dr. Albee was living at West Point at the time he was taken ill. Before that he lived at Roseworth, Rock Creek and in pioneer days lived at Buhl, where he built the Allred home on 9th Avenue. He was the first mayor of Buhl after the city government was organized in 1908. He left Buhl in 1910. He leaves a widow Mrs. Laura [Hansen] Albee and an adopted son, Joseph Porter Albee.
