Sally: I AM NOT researching the Pedrotti line, but probably can fill in a few gaps for you, if you wish as I am located in Humboldt County and have access (when they are open) to our library and have Marilyn Milota's books. From a glance, it looks as if Elvezio Joseph Pedrotti was the first one here. He and Attilia Grandi had at least three children born in the Capetown area of the Mattole region prior to 1900.. DOWNING Samuel James. Died: 20 July 1915, Arcata. Buried: Arcata. Married. Born: 3 January 1831. Ohio. Parents: Mary (Gibson) & Columbia Downing. Occupation: Cook/ Cause: Kidney Disease. Buried in Arcata would mean the Greenwood Cemetery. (D=T=C). This information from page 191, Humboldt County, California Death Records. Abstracts of Books 1 & 2. Compiled by Marilyn Keach Milota, January, 1993. Note: Marilyn has another book, covering 1911 to 1920, of obituaries. It would appear that no obit was in the local newspapers, and her source was the Death Certificate alone. Roxie: There was a John Paul HUTCHINS born in Humboldt County on that date, to a mother with a maiden name of Moreford., this per the CADI. Also (interestingly) there was a baby girl born on that date in Los Angeles, with the name of Mischel Danice HUCHINSON. Roxie: Actually, Myrtle Grove Cemetery is not in the oldest part of Eureka. It is a bit east of what we call "Old Town," or North of Fourth." And let's not forget Bucksport Cemetery, St. Bernard's Cemetery and the indigent section of that one big complex, now owned by the large corporation.. Some would also include the historic pioneer cemetery named "Table Bluff," even though it is way south of town because of its important residents. I have now determined some things about my Wiyot ancestress, although not what her maiden name was nor the surname of the man who impregnated her. Susan (?) Gorham, born 1840 Mary (Gorham) Silva, born 1865 Emma (Silva) Nelson, born 1893 Esther (Nelson) Shannon/Welch, born 1912 Susan was Wiyot. I've heard her nickname was "Lucky". Besides the identities of Mary (Gorham) Silva's parents, I'm looking for information on the first three husbands: Suzy's husband George Gorham (who was not the father of her baby--he was given a ranch by a prominent family to marry Suzy, because one of their sons had impregnated Suzy and they didn't want the "scandal", apparently and/or didn't want a Wiyot in the family) was born in Massachusetts in 1819, but I haven't been able to find out anything more about him. Mary's husband John Emmanuel Silva was, I assume, Portuguese, but I'd like to know where he came from (Portugal or the Azores or...), when he was born, and whether he was full-blooded Portuguese. Emma's husband Jeremiah Bliss Nelson was a seaman, born 1865, who at some point abandoned his family (or was lost at sea?). All I know about him is his name and birth year. Where was he originally from? Was he a whaler from Nantucket, or...? I know all about Esther Silva (Nelson) Shannon/Welch and her husband Theodore Roosevelt Shannon, as they were my grandparents.
