    3. The Library of Congress has digitized hundreds of their maps and made them available for researchers online. The Railroad Maps Collection covers the years 1828 to 1900 and is a part of the American Memory online section of the Library of Congress. You can search and view these digitized maps by visiting their web site at: http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/gmdhtml/rrhtml/rrhome.html Remember that learning what railroads were available as your ancestors were migrating to the west may help you determine how they got there and where they may have stopped. I am a descendant of George and Martha's father, Andrew WEBB (1820-1902), by their brother, William N. WEBB who settled in Washington state. I would love to share/exchange info with any other descendants. Also, if anyone out there has any info on George or Martha and whether they died in Humboldt Co. - I would appreciate the info. Thanks, Pattie Hannon in WA state

More are at the library. I also have old marriage ecords, Great Registers, etc. I can do a CADI search next week, and I have some proprietary information about living residents of the county, if you would like me to check for current info. We can also do a Social Security Death Index search. How shall we proceed? Regards, Don Tunison-Campbell in Eureka, Humboldt County.

Regards, Ed Costello, Raleigh NC Ed: I have looked through a number of local genealogical indexes that I have here at home, and found only a few entries: (1) There was the marriage of you Henry J. Laverty to Hellen Douarin on 8 September 1897 in Eureka. #2-266. Note the two "L's" in Hellen's given name. This was from the book: "Humboldt County Marriage Records 1864 -1911." Indexed by the Humboldt County Genealogal Society, 1979. (2) There was the marriage of Thaddeus ALbert Smith to Narue Frabces Douarin on 17 June 1884 in Blue Lake. H=329. This might be Hellen's mother or sister! This entry from the saem book as above. (3) The death of: Douarin, Frank J. Died 4-November 1908 in Korbel (Just east of Blue Lake) Buried: Blue Lake. Born 3- March 1877 in California. Parents: Helen M (William) & Frank Douarin. Occup: Clerk. Cause: infection. CERT 1-227. This was from the book: "HUMBOLDT COUNTY, CALIFORNIA DEATH RECORDS. nAbstracts of Books 1 & 2, 1873 - 1925, Volumes I & II." Compiled by Marilyn Keach Milota, Published by The Humboldt County Genealogical Society, January, 1993. (4) The eath of: DOUARIN, Francois M. b 1837. d. 1905. Buried: Blue Lake Cemetery. This may be Hellen's father, uncle or grandfather? Found in the book: Some Deaths and Burials in Humboldt Co. California 1852- 1905. by the Redwood Genealogical Society, Fortuna, Humboldt County, California. (5) Lastly, from my propriety database, there is a Margaret "Peg" Laverty BILLINGS living at 1636 J Street, Eureka, California 95501-266036. Telephoen (707) 442-7428. She is elderly, 88 I think. The telephone book shows a Denver Billings listed at that address rather than Margaret, so it is possible that she is deceased and I haven't taken note of the fact as of this date. I haven't scanned the Great (Voter's) Registers as of yet. I will, if you wish. I hope that this info helps a bit, or at least rule some things out. Denver Billings may be able to tell you more. 3. Well in response to Linda's observations, there is a historian, Marilyn Keach Milota who has compiled many facts, historical happenings and just plain INTERESTING articles form those newspaper files. Her works are bound in three volumes. Volume 1 and 2 are already published. I think number 3 is soon to be published. I have bought two of them and they have some genealogical information in them. Things that fill out the bones of names dates and places. And they are just plain FUN reading!. They give a clip of the Victorian era and their views and prejudices, and SHOCK in misbehaving! I am not sure where they are available from, but if you have the ability to run across one of them, you will enjoy reading them. Citizen named HARPER is on Harvey Harper, owner of the local Ford Agency. He was born in a Victorian house a block from my house! Burials are mostly done these days in the Ocean View Cemetery. 2. EDWARD D COSTELLO
    3. Dear Dawn,,,,,,,,Thankyou for the St Gertrudes address, I now can get my Haggerty / Laverty letter off to them. With respect to the PA coal miner: I mentioned before that I was in touch with Peg (Laverty) Billings out in Eureka CA. I followed up by sending her a whole bunch Laverty / Costello / Haggerty data. She passed it along to one of her nephews , Gerald Laverty from Murphy OR whos lineage is: Gerald Clayton Laverty < Henry Joseph Laverty < Henry James Laverty < William (The MIssing) Laverty < George Laverty. He responded to me with a phone call & fax which contained the following direct quotation from his Gm Helen (Dourain) Laverty who was commenting about the trek in the late 19thC of her husband & his brothers from NB Canada to CA. She also mentioned the fact that her husbands father treked to PA, worked as a coal miner & died there: " William and John, who possibly died enroute, and Henry started out as laborers on the Union Pacific Railroad. Their mother nearly died because she thought they would never comeback (and they did'nt) . Brother Ed stayed east (there were 4 brothers from Oak Hill, New Brunswick). Henry's father was a miner and is buried in Pennsylvania". Hence my exploration of the PA coal fields. I reviewed the PA 1860 census today at the NC state archives office, but no luck. I've also ordered the 1870 & 1880 census index from the FHC / LDS. I'm having a small problem identfying which PA counties are "coal counties". We'll see what develops. My other note with respect to the Napa CA Laverty couple with 200 Laverty's in their tree The name Isaac jumped right out at me but I dont see a connection to us. You'd think that with all of those Laverty's, they'd have enough to pass around. Package enroute with all of the above. This is all new to me and a great find - but don't know who the brother was or any other information about the company. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
