    3. When I was a kid in Eureka, the truant officer was Mrs. Lambert. I think that she was a local person. What I remember was that she had a daughter named Lacey who was a few years younger than I, I thought it was such a cool name. Also there was a Danielson's men's Store on 4th Street. There was a Buck's Tavern in Arcata. To determine the CITY of death you will need to order the death certificate or find a volunteer to transcribe the information at the county recorder's office. Here's the info site for CA vital records: http://vitalrec.com/ca.html Make sure you visit the link for the county of death listed - quite often it's much faster to deal with the county for a copy of the death certificate than it is with the state. If you do order from the state, fax your order. It's the fastest way to get the certificate and you can order up to 5 certificates for the $7.00 credit card surcharge. PLEASE check out the SSDI if a soc. sec. number appears in the death listing above http://ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi If you find a social security number listed that matches, PLEASE use the Post-em feature in the right column to share the information from the CADI so others may have access to the data also. You can leave any other information at this site and maybe someone will contact you. 1. [CAHUMBOL] Obituary, Hector MacKinnon, 1931
    2. Hi Listers, I am trying to find an obituary for Hector MacKinnon, who passed away in Eureka on 23 Dec 1931. I tried to write to the Humboldt County Library for help, using what must be an outdated address, and got my letter back, undelivered. I usually use the UC Berkeley library for this sort of work, but their collection of newspapers for Eureka doesn't cover 1931. Can anyone help me directly with the obituary search, or tell me the address of either the county library or a public library in Eureka? Thanks, Rick Sherman, Kensington, CA

    1. [CAHUMBOL] Business License Information
    2. Lynn & Jan James
    3. Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how far back Business License information can be found, and if so where I would go to get the information. I have my Great Grandfather's 2 ledgers from the Lee Brothers Cabinet and Millwork Shop that starts in 1891. (At least the dates of these two books start then). I'm trying to find out anything I can on this (who started up the business, etc.). I'm also desiring to find out anything I can about the brick plant my Grandfather had in Fortuna (at the old house we used to live at). I have no idea when he started that but think it was in the early 50's. Would anyone have any idea where I should start my search of these records? Thank you for ANY help you can give me on this. Sincerely, Jan James

    3. I am not sure if I am posting this correctly, but I need some help finding missing family members. My great-grandfather William Langslow Winzler took Grace Viola Miksch as his third wife. He had several daughters by his previous wives but my grandmother does not remember their names. Does anyone know where I might find William's obit that may list the names of his other children? He would have died in the early 1940's in Eureka. --Debbie Chase mailto:[email protected]

    1. [CAHUMBOL] Need help and direction
    2. Pam Haithcock
    3. I really need an opinion and direction from the obviously knowledgeable people on this list. The family I have in Humboldt Co. are John W. WOOD b. Sep 1853 in IL and d. 05 Oct 1914 Harris, Humboldt Co., CA. who married (16 Nov 1886) Mary Jane HUTCHENS b. July 1854, Oregon and d. aft. 1914. I sent for a copy of John's will and he leaves everything to his wife, uncle and brothers. I have to assume that either he had no children, or they preceded him in death. The other family member is William WOOD (John's uncle) b. 14 Apr 1826, Ohio and d. 02 Jul 1908, Harris, Humboldt Co., CA. In the 1870 census, William's wife is listed as Cloy (Indian) who is 20 years old. She is listed also in the 1900 census as Cheae (Indian). I got that from the website, so there's no other information in it. I don't have the 1880 census. These two families obviously lived together and had a ranch. I have to assume they did pretty well as I found a newspaper item (19 May 1899) in McLean Co., IL where the family lived that said John sent his mother $20 for her birthday. Big money back then. Could someone please tell me where to begin to look for any children of William and Cloy? Does anyone have access to the 1880 Harris census? How would I go about trying to determine what tribe William's wife was from? I am new to native American research and really need some guidance. Sorry this is so long. Thank you. 3. Tamie or Jennie: I am beginning to become very confused! At this point, I do not know who wanted the Obit on Aline Selvester. I have the obit, photocopied it off of the microfilm this afternoon. I would like to send it to you. Need your snail-mail address to do so. I do not charge. One of you mentioned wanting two obits, and a news article. I can obtain these for you, again, at no charge. This is a hobby for most of us, incuding me.
