Could I please get a CABI lookup up for the surname BACKEROFF between 1910 and 1935? (there wont be very many) I have the ones for 1940. I want to be sure I write to the correct county for birth certificates. The county on my aunts SSI application is different than that of her twin from the CABI that Jim gave me sometime ago. Edeline, 1983 (Copyright: The Ferndale Museum, Inc.), there is a photo (pg. 67) of about 45 pupils of Grant School 1903/1904. Only 17 names among which are Fritz Muller, Amel Muller, Freda ? Muller. Page 68, Grant School Photo - 1910 has Emil Mueller who appears to be about 13 years old. Thats just a guess; good looking and sturdy. No Muellers in 1911 photo (31 students). Page 69, Grant School - 1913 has 28 students, with Emil Mueller a tall (and very handsome) 16- or 17-year-old. The tallest in the class. No Muellers in Grant School Photo Circa 1915. Page 147. Photo and biography of Jacob Justin SAGE (1844-1926) says, His children born in Ohio, were: Margaret (never married), Serena (m. 1890 to Herman MUELLER), Mary (m. 1891 to Peter CANEPA), Meda (m. 1894 to Smith HART), and John (m. 1894 to Frankie MILLER). His (Jacobs) children born in the Eel River Valley were: William A., Belle, Lena, Ruby (these four never married) and James, who had the Petrolia Store in February 1902 (m. Dora RASMUSSEN). Eel River refers to the Ferndale area. If you find that you tie in with Jacob Sage, I can give you the rest of his bio. Jacob Sages wife was Martha VAUGHT (1849-1920). FERNDALE ...THE VILLAGE 1875-1893, Denis P. Edeline, 1987 (Copyright: The Ferndale Museum, Inc.) has information on Herman J. Mueller. Most of the material concerns various businesses he was involved in. Here I have picked out some personal information. Page 100. ...Mr. Mueller, a native of Germany, was a single man, 27 years of age. This in 1889. Page 102. ...Mr. Mueller was 26 years old and had married Serena Sage in the fall of 1890. A daughter, Muriel, was born to them during his first year at the store. ... With the assistance of his brother, Mr. Mueller supplied the store with a fine selection of furniture that had been selected and shipped from San Francisco. So, Herman had a brother in Ferndale. Who? No real answers here, but more clues for you. Maggie, in Ferndale, Humboldt Co, CA
Danette Low: First off, after searching for nearly an hour, for your Obit pm Ambers/Ambrose Hill Moore on or shortly after 22 January 1945, I gave up and went to search the CADI on microfiche. I discovered that yu had the date of death wrong, it was actually about a year later! I went back to the newspapers on microfilm, and searched some more. There was no Death Notice, Funeral Announcement nor Card of Thanks in the newspaper. I did eventually discover an news article in the Humboldt Times of 2 February, 1946. Only to discover that he did not die in either Blue Lake or Fortuna, as you had surmised!! He died in a fire in an area then known as Thorn, noe Known as Whitethorn. Just west of Garberville. Known these days primarily as a refuge of people wanting to be left along, many of them becasue they manufacture or grow illegal substances. I have a photocopy of the article, and will sned it to you when Ihave your mailing address. Says: THREE BURN TO DEATH IN CABIN FIRE AT THORN Coroner W. Lloyd Wallace reported yesterday that three persons were burned to death at Thorn late Thursday night. The three were identified as Ambrose Moore, A Mrs. Hinshaw and her fou8r-year-old grandson, Leon Chase. William Parr, a neighbor t the Moore cabin, discovered the fire and reported the blaze to the deputy sheriff at Garberville who summonred Coroner Wallace. Wallace said that the cabin was completely destroyed and that th4e three bodies were badly burned. Investigation revealed that the fire probably started from, burning wood that head been placed in pans on the floor to heat the cabin. As it turned out, I spent over $100 of time, but saved you he $8.00 cost of the death certificate <G>. Posted on: Humboldt County, California<BR>Query Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ca/Humboldt?read=363 Surname: Mueller, Muller ------------------------- I'm trying to find the aunt of my great-uncle, Friedrich "Fritz" Karl Mueller/Müller (born 11 Jun 1890 in Ellwürden, Oldenburg, Germany; came to US on 15 Aug 1912, to Galveston); unknown when his aunt arrived in US, or to Humboldt County. Information I got from a document said Fritz had an aunt, "Johanne Mueller", who [in 1918] was living in Ferndale, Humboldt Co, CA on a farm, and who had two sons "Fredricka" [probably a typo on someone's part, as Fredricka is a female name] and "Amel" (?) Mueller. Unknown if they kept German citizenship, or took American, or if the children were born in Germany or California. There are no land records for her in Humboldt County.
Rick, Essex, Humboldt County, is about midway between hwy 101 and Blue Lake on the south side of hwy 299. There is also Essex Gulch and Essex Pond in the same general area on the north side of hwy 299. Hope this helps Tony, Marysville WA. > > "California Place Names" identifies a town called Essex, in San Bernardino > County, and then mentions that there is another Essex, in Humboldt County. > Can anyone tell me anything about your Essex? Dear List, "California Place Names" identifies a town called Essex, in San Bernardino County, and then mentions that there is another Essex, in Humboldt County. Can anyone tell me anything about your Essex? I've not been able to find it on a map. Thanks. Rick Sherman, Kensington, CA
Hi list, I'm researching the Reas family who were living in Ferndale in 1860. Father James with two son's Peter William Reas and Dewitt Reas. Peter married Lydia Ann who died in Ferndale in 1861. Remarried Eleanor and had Laura Eleanor Reas in 1864 Ferndale. Any information about the Reas will be appreciated. Al Cofer Livermore, CA

Here's the info site for CA vital records: http://vitalrec.com/ca.html Make sure you visit the link for the county of death listed - quite often it's much faster to deal with the county for a copy of the death certificate than it is with the state. If you do order from the state, fax your order. It's the fastest way to get the certificate and you can order up to 5 certificates for the $7.00 credit card surcharge. Danette: I don't have the answers to your questiosn right at hand. However, I can look for the obit at the library later this week, if you wish. At a cost of $8.00, I can obtain the Death Certificate and mail it to you. I can also take a look at City Directories for close years. (I found no entry for 1930). Searched the CA death index and he is not listed in 1945. Is this him? MOORE AMBERS bp NA (not available) died Humboldt 01/31/1946 age 50 The new CADI cds give the parent's names for 1940-59 so either the data wasn't input by the state when the dc was sent from Humboldt or it wasn't available. I would say it wasn't know since the birthplace has NA in that box. Suggest you do some census work to see if you can find him that way. The location of death listed above is the COUNTY of death. I have a child that appears in the 1920 census that says he was adopted and he is going by the same last name as the rest of the family. In his death records of 1933, his mother and sibblings are named as "foster" family, and again, his last name is the same as theirs. Was "adoptive" and "foster" used interchangably at this time?
