Born May 21, 1918, in Briartown, Okla., he moved to Shasta County in 1977 from Victorville. He was a repairman for Riverside Portland Cement Co. in California and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include wife Winnie; daughters Delouris Bachman of Anderson, Barbara Elmore of McDonough, Ga., Sharon Haggadord of Redding and Christine Peters of Cottonwood; sister Ann Baker of Geary, Okla.; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Memorial donations can be made to Boys Town, USA, c/o Father Val J. Peter, Boys Town Center, Boys Town, NE 98010. Arrangements are being handled by McDonald's Chapel in Redding. This is my great uncle. I think his real name is William "Arthur", but his family always referred to him as "Abner". Ann Baker is a biological niece (daughter of Abner's sister Watie Cagle), but was adopted and raised in home of Abner's mother and thus referred to in this obit as "sister".
