Thanks, Lee and Alma, for this information. I am posting what I have on the family of Jeremiah Osborne and Anne Blythe. I am sending a more detailed file to Alma and Lee. Will be glad to share with anyone else interested but did not want to clutter the Cagle List with unrelated information: Descendants of Jeremiah Osborne File of Dana Meara 1. JEREMIAH2 OSBORNE (JEREMIAH1) was born Dec 24, 1772 in Augusta Co., VA, and died June 18, 1857 in Henderson Co., NC. He married (1) ANNE BLYTHE 1792 in Buncombe Co., NC, daughter of JAMES BLYTHE and UNKNOWN. She was born March 27, 1771 in South Carolina, and died Feb 12, 1837 in Henderson Co., NC. He married (2) MARY RAY March 18, 1840 in Henderson County, NC. She was born Abt. 1788 in VA (Source: 1860 Census of Henderson Co., NC, Mary Osborne, widow, age 72, born VA) and died Bef.1870 in Henderson Co., NC. Notes for JEREMIAH OSBORNE.: Jeremiah, Anne and Mary Ray Osborne were buried in "Osborne Family Cemetery" which is now covered by a house. Affidavits are on file at Henderson Co. Genealogy Library stating this fact. It was located on West Side of French Broad River on Horse Shoe Rd. ESTATE SETTLEMENT FOR JEREMIAH OSBORNE: Fall Term 1859, Henderson Co. NC. John Osborne, Et Al: Names all eleven children of Jeremiah. Heirs were listed for the deceased children (Rebecca, James, Jane). **RE: #9 A copy of the original of this deed is in my files. Breakdown of heirs of Jeremiah Osborne also given in, "Abstract Henderson Co. NC Estate Records" by Kathleen Summers. Notes for ANNE BLYTHE: Jesse Osborne Family Bible, owned by John Brogdon, West Palm Beach FL in 1982. Also see Orr and Cagle bible records and genealogies. Old Cagle papers, letters show Anne as mother of Mary Osborne Cagle. Notes for MARY RAY: No children to this union. Mary was most likely a widow with the married name of Ray, but no research has been done by me. She is buried in the same cemetery as Jeremiah and his first wife, Ann Blythe. She is named as widow of Jeremiah in his estate of 1858, Henderson Co., NC. Children of JEREMIAH OSBORNE and ANNE BLYTHE are: i. NANCY ANN4 OSBORNE (Source: Equity Records - Henderson Co., NC - Fall Term 1859, Final Setltement - Estate of Jeremiah Osborne), b. Aug 13, 1794, Buncombe Co., NC; d. 1870, Towns Co.,GA; m. WILLIAM LEONARD WOOD, April 12, 1820, Buncombe Co., NC; b. 1785, VA; d. Aft. 1859, Towns Co.,GA. Notes for NANCY ANN OSBORNE: Listed as daughter in estate settlement of her father, Henderson Co. June 30, 1798, Montgomery Co., NC (Source: Grave stone. Family Bibles.); d. Aug 8, 1866, Transylvania Co., NC (Source: Grave stone, Old Davidson River Cemetery, Brevard NC. Public records. Old family letters.) Notes for LEONARD C. CAGLE: The ancestry of Leonard is unproven although there are a number of books and Web pages showing him to be the son of various Cagles. Where Leonard and Mary resided a part of Buncombe Co. became part of Henderson Co. They moved their membership in the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Hendersonville to the Little River Church in 1840 - this is probably when they moved to what later became Transylvania Co. NC. The 1866 Tax List for Transylvania Co. shows Leonard to be the largest land owner in the County. He also owned tracks of land in upper SC. See newspaper clipping in my file from "The Transylvania Times", Brevard NC, June 18, 2001for a picture and story concerning Leonard as "a very successful business man" and earliest industrialist in Transylvania Co. If Leonard had a will (and I believe he did), it is lost. His widow filed ( fall of 1866) in Transylvania Co., NC. These papers have not been found but are referred to later in the estate records. Summary of Leonard Cagle Estate Settlement from Transylvania Co. Original Estates, NC Archives (R 093.508.2 and Henderson Co. Original Estates, Henderson Co. NC (CR 050.14): Papers cover from April 1867 through July 30, 1890. There are numerous gaps in the records. Heirs of Leonard are listed several times and include all his children except Margaret who died in childhood. Census Records: 1820, 1830, Buncombe Co. NC; 1840, 1850 Henderson Co. On some transcriptions of the 1850 Henderson Co. NC Census, the Cagle children, Jacob, Rebecca and James Henry in household of David Robertson. However, a later transcription by Dorsey (see file) corrects this and many other errors. A close look at the actual film confirms that these children should show in the h/h of their parents: Deeds/Grants in Buncombe/Henderson/Transylvania Co. NC and Greenville Co. SC are too numerous to list here. Leonard was involved in land transactions and speculation from early adulthood until his death. A lengthly list of deeds is in my file. iv. From land records in Buncombe Co., it appears that Jesse may have been in business with his brother-in-law, Benjamin Richardson, before moving to GA. v. CHARLOTTE OSBORNE (Source: Equity Records - Henderson Co., NC - Fall Term 1859, Final Settlement - Estate of Jeremiah Osborne), b. April 25, 1815, Buncombe Co., NC; m. WILLIAM COFFEY BERRY, July 23, 1856, Henderson Co., NC; b. Oct 19, 1796, Unknown; d. Oct 10, 1880, Jackson Co., NC. Notes for WILLIAM COFFEY BERRY: Identified as husband of Charlotte in her Father's will. He was a Free Will Baptist Minister and Charlotte was his second wife. William and his first wife had twelve children. The 1840 Census of Henderson Co., NC shows 10 children in the household. The 1850 Census Henderson Co. shows: William, Sarah E., Ephriam M., Joseph M., and Letitia. There is a published journal of the Rev. Berry. I have seen it quoted but have not seen the actual journal. From this, Rev. Berry and his wife went to SC in June 1863 as "refugees" seeking a more peaceful place to live. Must never have returned to NC since he is buried in Jackson Co. NC. In his journal, he also lists the names of his twelve children with his first wife. There probably were no children of his second wife considering their ages when married.
