The 1920 census shows that his father spoke German. Also, on the 1920 census, Ben is listed with the middle initial "J" instead of the usual "A", both sound alike which probably accounts for the error. James Cagle is listed as the father of Benjamin Alexander Cagle, b. 15 Aug 1850; d. 25 Apr 1920 on "Ben's" Death Certificate from the State of Tennessee, certificate #398, of Whitewell, Marion County. His death certificate indicates he was born in Tennessee. The informant for the information contained in the death certificate was his son, Albert Cagle, whom he was living with in the 1920 Census of Marion Co., TN.
