    1. [CAGLE] Christian Keener Cagle, b. 1904
    2. I found the following on the Web today. I thought it was interesting and maybe you other football officiatoes may enjoy it as well: pg 8, The Harve Daily News, Harve, MT, May 14, 1930 Records Reveal Cagle Married Two Years Ago: Immediate dismissal of famous grid star from West Point predicted by Army officials. West Point, NY, May 13 API: Cadet Christian Keener Cagle resigned today from the US Military Academy after presenting a certificate saying he was married. The resignation was requested by Maj Gen William R Smith, superintendent of the Academy, and was forwarded at once to the War Dept, Washington, DC. New Orleans, LA, May 13, API: Records in the court of Gretna, Jefferson Parish, LA today revealed that Christian Keener Cagle, "Red Head" Army football star and Miss Marion Munford Haile, a pretty auburn haired girl of New Roads, LA were married on Aug 25, 1928. The marriage was performed by George J Trauth, Justice of the Peace of Gretna who went back through his records of seven years and located the certificate. Each gave their ages as 23 years. Cagle gave his address as New Orleans and his bride's address as Baton Rouge. Witnesses to the marriage were Garnett Todd II, and Daniel Whitney. The marriage certificate shows that the brides father is deceased. Her mother is Mrs Valentine Herbert Haile. Mrs Cagle left yesterday on a visit to New York. Academy officials including Maj Gen William R Smith, Commadant, were not prepared to take official action or make any official statement but the indications were that Cagle would be called summarily to account. Information concerning Cagle's marriage to Miss Haile on August 25, 1928 contained in an API dispatch was the first detailed evidence received at West Point. It was understood that following investigation of rumors, Cagle had explicitly denied being married. Marriage by any cadet is strictly prohibited by the regulations and after leave or furlough he is obliged to sign a certificate guaranteeing he has done nothing in violation of the rules. It was recalled Cagle overstayed a Christmas Holiday furlough in 1928 and was disciplined by assignment to three months extra guard duty. The announcement of the marriage, kept secret for two years, surprised relatives of Cagle as it did his wide circle of followers on the grid iron, with the exception of a few close friends. West Point, NY, May 13, API: Immediate dismissal of Christian Keener Cagle from the Military Academy was forecast today by officials, following news dispatches confirming reports of the Army football Captain's marriage nearly two years ago in violation of Army regulations.
