I've already checked the census records on Polly Cagle and according to them, she was born in 1796. I thought the tombstone was wrong when I first saw it - she would have been over 20 years older than William instead of 4 if that date had been true. Also, all census records show William as being born in North Carolina instead of GA. I still have no idea who his father would be. My main question really was - is the Jacob Cagle in the 1800 Buncombe County census the same Jacob as in the Habersham and Hall County Census records later? I couldn't decide if he was since John Cagle who should have been born within a couple of years of Polly didn't show up on the census in Buncombe County. Maybe it's just an error on the census. I don't know why I thought Polly would be the daughter of one of the others - none of them were in GA in 1820 when she married William so I was totally off base there. Thanks for the help.
