Now I am totally confused - I finally found both William and Miranda and Jesse and Nancy listed in the Cocke County Census for 1900 - but they're both listed with the last name of Messer. Children are the same, except Jessie also has a daughter named Finie born about the same time as Bob's wife. I checked in the 1880 census and still get Messer. Somebody please tell me what's going on. Maybe I missed something along the way. This isn't even my line and I'm frustrated. Ashley, the only reason I brought up Neverson Cagle was the similarity in the names of the children. I don't think there's a connection. Hobert actually seems pretty common back in the 1800's.
