Hannah Essary was born October 1839 in Illinois, daughter of George Essary and Elizabeth Barker. The family appears on the 1850 Saline County, Illinois, Raleigh Precinct census. Hannah is 10 years old. She married William Pitts on 4-11-1861, Barry County, Missouri. He died in the Civil War. They had one daughter, Sarah Elizabeth, born 1863.
