The following details the information of a family I have been trying to connect to our southern Cagle family tree for years. I have not been able to move any further than the census I first found about fifteen years ago. Please take a good look at all the information and see if you see even a tiny clue. I will sincerely appreciate any help "Francis appeared in the 1870 U S census, in Prentiss County, Mississippi, with her children. There is no clue as to how she is connected to the Cagle family and as of this date I have been unable to determine who was her husband and the father of her children. My first thought, which eventually may be proven, is that she was a Civil War Widow. The only records connecting to her after 1870 are those of her youngest son, William Ambers Cagle. "In the 1900 U S Census, Tippah County, MS, another widow, Mat Cagle, was enumerated, but no official record had been found to connect Mat to Francis. Mat appeared with five of her sons in that census. "In May 1994 a reference was found referring to the obituary of Arch Cagle who died in Tippah Co., MS, in 1945. A copy of the obituary was obtained from the Ripley Public Library in Ripley, MS. The obituary identifies the brother's of Archibald F. Cagle, who are the sons listed in the 1900 Prentiss County census with Mat. They are identified as the, "seven sons of John H. Cagle," whom this writer believes to be the eldest son of son of Francis Cagle in the 1870 Prentiss County Census. The Obituary reads as follows: "Funeral services for Archibald F. Cagle, 63, were held Tuesday morning from the family residence in Blue Mountain. They were conducted by Rev. S. V. Gullett, Baptist Minister, assisted by Rev. Clifford J. Smyly, pastor of Lowery Memorial Baptist Church. Burial was in Blue Mountain Cemetery. Mr. Cagle who has been suffering from heart complications for a long time and who has been in bed for the five weeks, died suddenly while sitting on the side of his bed, eating breakfast. "Archibald F. Cagle was born in Tishomingo County, Miss., being one of the seven sons of Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Cagle. The Cagles moved to Blue Mountain about 40 years ago. (Sic) "Mr. Cagle married Miss Dovie Roberson of Blue Mountain who survives him. He was a Baptist. "Besides his wife, Mr. Cagle leaves two daughters: Mrs. Frank Wall and Mrs. Prince Luna, both of Blue Mountain, and five brothers, Bob, Ellery, Oscar, Clay and Marshall Cagle all residing in and around Blue Mountain. "Arch is dead. Arch was a first-rate fellow, big of heart, broad of humor, and ready to lend a helping hand. Arch was a frequent figure in my Men's Bible Class down at the local Railway station and he occasionally stopped by my place to ask to ask my opinion about some bible passage or about the progress of world affairs. I liked Arch Cagle. He had a great many warm friends in this neighborhood and he will be greatly missed. May his family receive comfort from the life he lived and may the memory of this warm hearted, good natured man linger long in the hearts and minds of his neighbors and friends. "R. L. Nance & Co. had charge of funeral arrangements. - by David E. Guyton." [UL: SOUTHERN SENTINEL :UL] Newspaper, June 14, 1945. "Those families who were indicated as living in the same general area as Francis Cagle in the enumeration of the 1870 Census of Prentiss County, in the area served by the Booneville, MS, Post office, 12 July 1870, Census Book Page No. 377, were investigated for some family link, but this writer could identify none as having a connection to Francis. The families listed in that census, including Francis, are enumerated below as part of the search for the ancestry of this Francis Cagle.
