Dorothy wrote in part: ____________________ Kegel-Cagle: The information on Leonhart Kegel is the same as you and others have said. The Heritage book Vol. II, page 182, article #64 then states that Leonhart moved his family sometime during the period of 1754-55 to NC. "In North Carolina the Kegel family lived at first on the upper Deep River near the Moravian settlement in which is now Forsyth County. The name was changed to Cagle. The first Cagle to be born in the South was probably Jacob Cagle 1755-1845) in Rowan County. Jacob was a soldier of thr American Revolution. It is assumed that Leonhart Kegel's sons purchased land in Cumberland County, North Carolina. Leonhart Kegel's sons were: David, who died in the 1780's; John, who died in 1799; and Henry, who died in 1802. The descendants of these men moved west and south becoming the ancestors of the Cagle family in the United States." This came from John G. Cagle's book with his permission according to the article. _______________________________ Dorothy & List, Please allow me to clarify that besides the children listed, he also was the father of my direct ancestor, Leonard Cagle b. abt. 1730. This is also Tom Cagle's, and I am sure a few other members of this list's ancestor. Although I am not familiar with this book of John G. Cagles, I have read some of his newsletters. He as are many others, is in agreement with me as to Leonard, being one of Leonhart Kegel's sons. My ancestor Leonard Cagle, appears in the Moore Co; NC; census of 1790. He is shown living with his family in the Fayette District. He is shown with seven sons, two daughters, and his wife. Regards, Earl D.Cagle Sr. List owner : CAGLE-L
