    2. might help someone in the group. Hi James, Well, first I looked in the Index to AR Conf. Pension Applications and here is what they have for your James... Allen, James,* widow; Malinda Jane; Co. Venable's 10 Ark. Cav; he applied 1914, she applied 1918, Clebourne Co. He died 1/7/1918.... Then I looked in the 1911 census Arkansas Veterans, Vo I, pg 7 & 8.. and found this! ALLEN, JAMES, of Heber Springs, AR was born May 12, 1840 at Quitman, then Van Buren, now Cleburne Co., Ark., the son of Eli Allen of Illinois. Eli Allen was the son of Square Allen and his wife Tilda Allen who lived in Brazil, Saline Co. Ark. The maiden name of subject's mother was Bettie Henson, the dau. of Charles Henson of Boonsville, Missouri. He was educated in Van Buren Co. Ark. teachers Rice Venerable and Chris Miller. He was a farmer, a Democrat and a Missionary Baptist. His wife was Malendy Jane Cagle, dau. of Zachariah Cagle and wife Jane, of Batesville, Ark. who he married March 16, 1865 at Shiloh, Ark. He stated that he served all through the Civil War. His children, their spouses and residences were: 1. Elizabeth m. John Selby, Heber Springs, Ark 2. William Isom m. Allie McKiney, Heber Springs, Ark 3. Emma m. Tom Porter, Lake City, Ark. 4. Thomas Henry m. Mollie Butler, Wilburn 5. James J. m. Callie Hicks, Senath, MO 6. Susan m. Ed Kenney, Judsonia, Ark. 7. Bob Allen m. Olie Finney, Hever Springs, Ark. 8. Mellie Allen m. Cal. Dill, Heber Ssprings, Ark. Certified by J. W. Duke, Assessor of Cleburne Co., Ark. July 11, 1912 NOW I suppose you want his Civil War Records, right?? HA Oh, Lord, I love these kinds of "lookups"!! :-D I'm going to send this info on the Edward G. Gerdes, who has access to the microfilm of the Nat. Archives and see if he can find anything else for you.... Now I am dancing in the street in my town in MO, because of your soldier, and I sure hope you are with all this info!! HA What a Find!! I will put your soldier up on the AR Memorial Page and am proud to do this.... I'll let you know when he's up there. You will hear from Edward G. Gerdes regarding his records and he or I will get back to you with this AND this is the microfilm lookup by EG: ALLEN, JAMES, Rank not stated, Bradley's Co G, Witt's Regt, 10th Ark Cavalry Muster and descriptive roll of prisoners of war belonging to the northern Sub-district of Arkansas and surrendered, on the 11th day of May 1865 by Brigadier General M. Jeff Thompson, CSA, commanding said army to Maj General G.M.Dodge, U.S.A. Commanding Department of Missouri. Paroled at Jacksonport, Arkansas June 5th 1865 Where enlisted: Clinton, Age: 23, Eyes: dark, Hair: dark, Conplx: Dark, Ht: 5 feet _____inches Where Born: Ark.
