Anyone know a Sherod W. Cagle? My gg-grandparents, Charles & Susan Stokes, sold land to Sherod W. Cagle on January 18, 1866. The land sold was located in Marion Co., AL but the deed was recorded in Massac Co., IL as that's where Charles was living at the time. Land description: the SE 1/4 of the NW 1/4 & NE 1/4 of SW 1/4 of Section 34 in Township 10 of Range 12 West. 79 acres and 6 1/100 acre. Marion County, AL. $1600. It's recorded in book M, page 5. I found this on films at the Family History Center. Charles originally obtained the land on September 1, 1860 as you can see on the online Goverment Land Office site.
