Commading Officer , Major General Montford Stockes Commadant , Lt. Col. Richard Allison . He was botn July 08, 1777 in Stanly County, and died in May 1851, in Stanly County, North Carolina. The Will of George Jr., in 1851, shows that Howard's name was actually Harwood Washington Cagle . The family had originated in Moore County, in the Fayette Dist, of North Carolina, as noted they moved westward to what is now Stanley Co., NC in the 1780s. Will of George Cgle, 1850-1851 George Cagle, b. 1777, who is presumed to have been the son of old George, 1745-50/1825, was listed in the 1850 Stanly Co. census at age 73. Then , on Dec. 23, 1850, George made a Will in Stanly Co, and subsequently died within a few monts. The text of the Will (which was probated in May of 1851) reads as follows, as taken from the Stanly co. Will Book 1, pp.83-85: Will of George Cagle State of North Carolina , Stanly County I George Cagle of the County, of Stanly and State of North Carolina being of sound mind and memory, but considering the uncertainty of my earthly existence do make and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following; that is to say, first, that my executor herein after named shall provied for my body a decent burial suitable to the wishes of my relations and friends, and pay all funeral expenses together with my just debts howsoever and whomsoever owing out of the moneys that may first come into their hands as part or parcel of my estate: Item. I give and devise to my Eldest daughter Mary Long a part of the land I now live on to have and to hold to her and her heirs in fee simple forever that is to say: Beginning at a stake on the West side of the mill branch and runs East to a rock, from the rock to the other line where it crosses the said branch. Item. I give and devise to my daughter Sary all the balance of the tract of land I now live on to have and to hold to her and her heirs in fee simple forever. Item. I give and bequeath to my Eldest daughter Mary Long, one Cow and Calf the second choice. Item . I give and bequeath to my daughter Sary Two Cows and Calves, her first and third choice. Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Sary four head of sheep her choice. Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Sary one Sorel Mare about five years old, saddele and bridle to have and to hold to her and her heirs in fee simple absolutely forever. Item. I give and bequeath to my son Harwood the sum of ten dollars, to be paid by my Executors herin after named in the same manner as the last bequest and is maid under the same views in reference to the former advancements.Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Catherine the sum of one dollar as her rite and property forever to be paid by my Executors in the same manner as the last bequest and is maid under the same views in refference to the former advancemants. Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeths heirs, Adam W. Hunnycutt and Eli B. Hunnycutt, five dollars each, to be paid by my executors, herein after named, within two years form my death beloning to my estate not otherwise disposed of. Item. My will and desire is that all the residue of my estate if any, after taking out the divises and legacies above mentioned shall be sold by executors herein after named of they may keep the property and pay of [i.e., pay off] the legatees at their option or whatsoever manner they may think best, and collect all debts owing to me , and pay of [pay off] all debts that I may owe. And lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my trusty friends, that is to say my two daughters Mary and Sarah to be my lawful executors to all intents and purposes to execute this my last will and Testament, according to the true intent and meaning of the same, and every part and clause thereof, hereby revoking and declaring utterly void all other wills and testaments by me heretofore made in witness whereof I the said George Cagle do herunto set my hand and seal This 23rs day of December A.D. 1850. Notes for Harwood Washington Cagle: Harwood died in 1865 and is buried at Cagle Cemetery at Wheeler Bend in Pope County, Arkansas in a unmarded graves . They moved to Pope County, in 1836, from Fayette , Moore County, NC. and setted on the West Bank of Illnios Bayou North of Russellville, Arkansas where the water plant is located. Harwood brought with him Millstones which were about ten years old. With these he built a water mill believed to be the first west of the Mississippi river .
