George Washington Cagle died in Boise, Ada County, Idaho on February 16, 1922. His wife, Lucinda "Lucy" Russell, preceded his in death , haveing died in Boise on December 28, 1907 (Information is from John G. Cagle's book 1860-1910 on page 740, 741, 742, and 743, there are also photo's on these pages.) Moved to Idaho 1904-07 era In 1904 , George Washington Cagle and wife of Reno County, Kansas celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Th event was marked by an artical in the local newpaper, as follows; For Fifty years Mr. and Mrs. Cagle Have Worked in Double Harness -- and Now Celebrate There was a golden wedding celdbration an reunion at the home of G. W. Cagle, one of the old settlers of Loda Township, in his home at Sego, nine miles south of Arlington, on February 17th. Mr. and Mrs. Cagle were among the first settlers of that vicinity presented him with a gold headed cane. The aged couple also received many other handsom presents. Elder Henry Cole of Arlington waas present and had charge of the ceremonies. George Washington Cagle was born in Warren County, Tennessee, Feb. 23, 1835. When about two or three years of age, his father, Charles Cagle, emigrated to the state of Alabama, withhis family, consisting of several children. George W. was among the number and when he was seveteen years old they emigrated from Alabama to Illinois. Lucy Russell was born in Warren County, Tennessee, Feb. 9, 1835, six miles from the place where G. W. Cagle was born. In the year 1852, Lucy and parents emigrated from Tennessee to Illinois, Locating not far from the place where G. W. Cagle was living . The Couple were married in Massac County, Illinois, on Geb. 17, 1854. They emigrated and settled in Reno County, Kansas in the year 1878, this Febuary 17 being their golden wedding or fiftieth marriage anniversary. The family now consits of ten children living, two sons and eight daughters. There are thirty-nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Biographical Sketch: George Washington Cagle 1835-1922 Charles Cagle, the father of George W. Cagle, is believed to have been born in North Carolina in the 1790s and migrated to Warren County, TN in the era of 1810-12, with the family groups headed by Jacob Cagle, 1755-1845, and Valentine Cagle 1755-60. In the 1820 censuses , Charles was apparently in Tennessee.: but, by 1840, had moved to Walker Co., AL. (that part which is now Winston County), and was listed with his six sons and two daughters as follows; Cagle , Charles 1122001-0100101 His location for the 1850 census was Hancock (Winston) Co., AL. His daughters are believed to have been named Martha and Rhodie Cagle , and his sons were as follows: John ("Goffer John") b.ca 1821 (1850 DeKalb, AL) Lloyd H., b.ca 1824 (1850 DeKalb, AL) James Riley, b.ca 1826 (1850 Winston,AL) Jeremiah ("Jerry"), b.ca 1829 (1850 DeKalb, AL) George Washington b.1835 (1870 Pope , ILL) Silas b.ca1838 (1860 Dunklin, MO) Geo. W. Cagle, after being married in Ill in 1854, returned to Ala in time to be enumerated in the 1860- census of Winston County. He returened to ILL in the 1860s, then lived in Missouri in the 1870s, before migrating to Kansas in 1878. It is interesting to note that George's wife, Lucinda (Lucy)Russell, herself was of Cagle ancestry and was the grand-daughter of Charles Cagle of the Warren County, TN area. Her mother was Margaret Cagle , ca.1806-1871, daughter of Charles Cagle, b. 1780s and who died in Warren County, TN in 1842.
