John, I'm of the opinion that not only " Stars Fell On Alabama", but a jillion variations of surnames also. While I have hundreds of Cagle surnames in my database, a lot unverified as yet, I have another couple of hundred possible Cagles spelled in various ways. I have seen them as Cabels, Caygell, Kaygel, Cobles, and almost any other variation the transcriber could list. Undoubtedly, some are truly Cagle descendants. Some also are not. It's a like situation with most names that can be phonetically spelled. My own main line of Sterlings have been identified as Stirling, Sterling, Starling, and Styrlen. The kuykendalls are at least ten different spellings in the histories. The original was Luur of View of the Valley, in the Netherlands, translated Luur Van Kuykendall. It makes life for a genealogist miserable at best, but facinating trying to figure it out as well. I don't have this one in my files, but I can assure you I will keep Looking for him.
