Margaret Cagle, born 1849 in Haralson County, Georgia; died in Edwardville, Cleburne County, Alabama. She married Robert M. Brown September 11, 1868 in Haralson County, Georgia; born in Haralson County, Georgia. Notes for Margaret Cagle: Margaret Cagle , the eighth child of Benj. J. and Parthena Jinks Cagle , was born in GA. ca.1849. At the time of the 1860 census, Margaret was living with he parents in Harlason, Co. GA., at 11. , she next appears in county, records on Sept. 9, 1868, when she and Robert M. Brown were licensed to be married. The ceremony was performed on Sept. 11, by J. G. Newman , J. P. after their marriage, Robert and Margaret lived for a number of years in Harlason County, at one time owning a track of land adjacent to Benj . F. Cagle homestead, their main place of residence, however, seems to have been along Poplar Springs Road, A few miles to the South. This farm was first acquired by Benj. F. Cagle in 1872, but had either been sold or deeded to the Browns by 1875, when their name appear on the Tax list as owner. They appear to have been in the county, as late as 1887, when Margaret's name appears on the request by Jesse Cagle , her younger brother, to force the probate of Benj.F. Cagel's will. Family traditon indicates that Robert M. Brown, though a farmer by occupation, was best known in the county, as a man with a firey temper, who would not hesitate to draw his guns when provoked. Such a case eventually led to the couple's departure from Haralson County. Robert was brought into court on a certian charge, and when the prosceedings of the case went against him, he refused to submit to judgment, and instead drew his gun and fired at the judge on the bench. although the shots were wide of the mark, Robert became a fugitive, and after a period of hiding, fled to Texas, where relatives of Margaret were living. there exact year of arrival in Texas is not known, however, it is certain that they were in Grayson County, Texas in 1896 , for on the 25th. of June in that year they appeared before a Notary Public to execute documents identifying them as the rightfull heirs of Benjamin G. Cagle. Then on July 6, 1896, when the proceeds of the estate were divided , Margaret recived he one-twelfth share of $60.15. Factual evidence regarding Margaret's later life has been difficult to obtain, family tradition, however indicates that she and her husband returned to the region of N.W. Georgia and N.E. Alabama , apparently living in or near the region of Cherokee / Cleburne Co's Alabama though several of B.F. Cagle's children died in youth or middle age, Margaret lived into old age, and was affectionately known as "Aunt Margaret " by the many Cagle descendents in the region. It has been repoted the Margaret died in Alabama , and is buried at the Prebyterian Church, near Edwardsville, Cleburn County, Alabama. + 10 ix.
