    1. Roll Call
    2. Hi List. I think the ROLL CALL is an exellent idea. If we ever get past our famous Pleas William Cagle, we might be able to widen our tree. The poor man never died according to Missouri, Tennessee, Arkansas and Illinois; states that he could've been.................. We have requested searches in all these states for a death certificate..........no luck. We know he is buried in Missouri, we know who buried him and every so often, living relatives tell us of him being called Pleas Chapman Cagle, even though there has been no proof of this either. His fathers name was.................Pleas Cagle. The only Pleas ever mentioned was in Tennessee's census (as Earl has mentioned) as a child of the age of 8 years. Any one ever run across this name any other place? Regards Sandra

    1. Re: Cagle Roll Call
    2. Hi Earl and List, The roll call seems like a good idea and a great opportunity to toss those seemingly impenetrable "brick walls" out for another viewing. So far I am batting "0" after much searching. I want to learn how she connects to the Cagle family. It seems she wants to remain a mystery. She is not a part of my direct line. My interest is learning how, or if, she relates the other Cagle families in Mississippi, or perhaps Western Alabama. I have found no other record of her although some of her children continue to appear in the census in later years and some of her descendants still live in northeast MS. This is the way she appeared in the 1870 census of Prentiss County, Mississippi on page 5, in the town of Booneville, Household and Dwelling No. 275, as follows: Cagle, Francis, E. 39 AL Keep house John W. 20 AL Farm Laborer Margaret E. 19 AL Liddy 14 AL Elisa A. 12 AL Mary L. 9 AL Ambrose 5 AL Also have not been able to find her in 1850 or 1860 AL Census where, judging by children's birth dates, they must have resided. I have often thought she might be a widow of the Civil War, and I have a candidate from MS, but have never been able to connect him to any family either. Could the George Cagle below be her husband???? He appears in the records of Mississippi Soldiers in the CSA as follows: Pvt. GEORGE CAGLE, Co. K, 42nd Regt., Mississippi Volunters, enlisted May 14, 1862, Saltillo, MS; died in hospital in Charlottsville, VA, December 24, 1863. One military record gives the following information: Enlisted at Age 48, was born in NC, was married, Post Office nearest to his home at time of enlistment was Fenton (?Fulton), Mississippi. Have been unable to find any other records of this George Cagle. Will Appreciate any help. Jim in MS My line is: Leonhart Leonard Roger, Sr. Roger, Jr. Martin V. James Franklin Elzie R. Jimmy B. 1. Re: Cagle Roll Call
    2. Hello List-- My Cagle ancestory is as follows: (All info was obtained from census and court records.) 1. John Cagle, d. 1799 and Catherine. (I believe this is John Dutchman, son of Leonhart.) 2. Jacob Cagle, b. 1765 d. 10-20-1858, and Elizabeth "Betsy" Gillmore, d. 1831. I have court records on the disbursement of Jacob's Estate in Hall County, Georgia. 3. Mary (Polly) Cagle, b. April 1796 d. 11-8-1865, and William Cagle, b. 1799 d. 4-17-1881. Mary and William were married 2-20-1820. Mary was Jacob's oldest daughter. It is rumored that Mary and William were first cousins, but I have no info on William's parents. I have court records on the disbursement of William's Estate in Hall County, Georgia. 4. Adler C. Cagle, b. 3-7-1832 d. 1-20-1899, and Mary Ann Carter, b. 2-13-1831 d. 1-30-1908. Adler and Mary Ann were married on 8-26-1853. Adler was an administrator for William's will along with Adler's brother Henry C. Cagle. 5. Rufus Alonzo (Lonzo) Cagle, b. 10-6-1879 d. 1952, and Ellen Rosalee Free, b. 5-22-1881 d. 12-1-1972. Lonzo and Ellen were married 2-3-1901. 7. Lester C. Cagle, b. 8-28-1907 d. 5-19-1986, and Kate Elizabeth West, b. 7-24-1909 d. 8-29- 1971 8. Lester Cagle was my grandfather. ( All are from Habersham or Hall Co. GA, except Leonhart and John Dutchman. I am not exactly sure when the family moved to the Hall County area.) My roadblock is, of course, William C. Cagle that married Mary (Polly) daughter of Jacob. By the way, thank you to everyone on the list for the information you give out. I have been able to make several contacts that have made my tree grow and grow. Thanks again--Jill

    3. Earl and List, I agree there are still a lot of unknowns and some brickwalls, but they are slowly beginning to crumble. It just takes time and patience.. These folks were around awhile, and have been gone a long time in most cases. There are bound to be records available that we haven't discovered yet. Open discussion helps point the way, and uncovers errors. Here is what I have so far on my lines: 1.Leonhart Kegel b. abt. 1684, Germany d. aft. 1754 NC. + Susannah 2. Cagle, Leonard, b. abt 1780 NC, d. aft. 1850, Franklin Co, GA *( here is the brick wall but I am slowly tearing it down and have found there were three Leonards about the same time and area.) + Fullbright, Miss (unk) 5. 3. Greetings CAGLE-L list. Sort of a newcomer here and also a newcomer to researching CAGLE's and BRITT's. These are my wifes maternal lines and have not extended very far yet. Need all the help I can get. Her Grampa was Nelson "Ned" Britt b: 1863 TN and her Gramma was Sarah Ann (Sally) Cagle b: 1870 TN. Her death cert. says that her father was Robert Cagle and her mother was Anne Gullory. Am vigorously trying to run this line at this time. Sarah had at least 3 sister's and 1 brother. Would like information on these people also. Clyde <gotcher@ktis.net> Hermann, MO

Her date of birth is taken from the 1900 Census of Mississippi Co; Mo. This being her true date of birth, she ahould have needed parental consent to marry.
