    3. Willie, Looks like you have done a good job on your line. I am descended from Henry Cagle, Sr., 1760-1838, who may be a brother of Valentine. However, I would question John "Dutchman" being the father of Valentine. John leaves a will in Moore Co., NC in 1799 and does not mention a son named Valentine. Some have considered that Valentine may be a son of David Cagle, b. 1728, d. 1794-90. They both lived in the Cabarrus Co., NC. area. David died as shown above and Valentine moved on to Warren Co., TN ca 1812. In the 1820's, my family moved to Hardin Co., TN which is located either side of the Tennessee River where TN, AL and MS come together. David Hardin Co., TN WBarton102@aol.com wrote: > I'm new. 1. Early Cagles in Old Cumberland Co. NC
    2. On Feb. 3, 1764, John "Dutchman" Cagle bought 120 acres of land from James Cheney at the forks of Bear and Cabin Creeks in Old Cumberland (Present Moore ) County,. John remained at this place for the rest of his life, and added to it with land grants in the years 1769, 1773 and 1796, plus whatever additional land he may have bought by deed. He died at this location in 1799, and left a Will naming five sons and five daughters: three of the sons -- George, b.1760s, John, b. 1780s, and William, b. 1788 --also are believed to have had land grants at or near the forks of Bear and Cabin Creeks, in later years. In 1767, David Cagle had a land grant near the John "Dutchman" Cagle tract . David sold this tract in 1769, and is not known to appear in Cumberland Co. records therafter; it is believed taht he moved to Mecklenburg (present Cabarrus ) County. John " Dutchman" Cagle appears twice in the Minute Book of the Cumberland Co Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessopms in the year 1764, in connection with road jury work: some of the names, it will be noted, had earlier appeared in the records of Old Orange Co., in the 1750s and early 1760s (see section on Orange County). Some these names, notably Kegel, Garner, Hunsucker, and Hart, represent the German families which were beginning to move into Cumberland Co. from Rowan and Orange counties: Nov. 1764: "A road to be laid off from Sandhill smith's as appointed last court. Jury: JOhn Kegel, Wm. Smith Sr., Jno Goleman , Jono. Smith, Nicholas Smith, Nicholas Nuton , Jacob McClendol, Joel McClendol, Thomas Ward, Jason Ward, John Weare, and Wm. Gillit." "A road to be laid off from Bear Creek at shuffill's path to Spinx's road, John Williamson appointed overseer, jury as follows: John williamson, John Gardner, Enox Spinx (I.e., Enoch Spinks) Leonard Hart, John shuffill, Wm. Garner , Able Lee, Jno. Huntsucker, WM. Kee (Lee), Jno. Kegell, Jas. Johnston, and Mic. Heart (I.e. Michael Hart)," Thus far, the Editor John G. Cagle has not found Cagle records for Cumberland Co. for the years 1765 and 1766. In 1767, however , three Cagles were present on the Tax List for that year (which gave nuber of white adult males in each household, plus number of Negro Slaves): 1767 Cumberland Co. Tax List: Keagel, John 1 white, 1 negro " Henry 1 white " Leonard 1 white These were John "Duthchman" Cagle , who lived at the forks of Bear and Cabin Creeks, and Henry Cagle Sr. (d1802) and Leonard Cagle, c1740s-1880s (probably the son of David), who lived on Little Buffalo Creek. Both Henry Sr. and Leonard later moved onto Bear Creek, probably in the 1770s. In 1767, the Cagle land grant records of Cumberland co. begin, with a grant to old David Cagle near Bear & Cabin Creek, and total some six entries, up through the year 1773 (You have to see the chapter on old Cumberland Co. for more details) (pages 25 & 26 , Pre 1767 Cagle Land Grants of North Carolina ) (these are my notes ) Nancy Jane Tarzana , CA. 3. Doyle - I find it very interesting that some of your Cagles and the Jinks ladies were born in Haywood Co, NC, yet their nuptials were celebrated in Henry Co, GA. I'm starting to think the Cagles, Jinkses and the Fulbrights/Vollbrechts moved together. There were some Fulbrights in, I believe, Hall Co, GA abt the time several Cagle families were on the move through that area. John -----Original Message----- From: Doyle W. 1. Re: Fwd: Free searches at LDS IGI
    2. Merritt Mullen
    3. I'm a little puzzled by the subject of this thread, since searches of the LDS IGI have always been 100% free. I have been following this rumor closely and here is the latest (from what appears to be a knowledgeble source). The LDS Church is indeed putting their "Family Search" on the net (sometime in the next couple of months, so they say), but keep in mind that the Family Search databases include the Family History Library Catalog (FHLC), the IGI, the Ancestral File, the SSDI, and a couple of other data bases. The part that will be going on the internet first--and this makes a lot of sense--is the FHLC, and the internet version will have a lot more seach options than the FHLC that is available on CD-ROM has. This means you can search the FHLC (by name, subject, locality, or call number) at home and when you find what you want, and if it is on microfilm or fiche, you can go to your local FHC and order the microfilm or fiche. The FHLC is the most important of the Family Search databases, as it is the means that one gets access to films of original records. The Ancestral File, and much of the IGI, is data submitted by individuals, which may or may not be accurate, and is really only useful as a guide to tracking down original records. Perhaps later, after they feel comfortable with the operation of the internet FHLC, they will consider adding the IGI and Ancestral File to the internet database. I think the main concern of the LDS church is that someone will download large portions of the data, republish it and try to sell it. The church's policy is that this data should forever be free to the user. Merritt Earl Cagle wrote: > > This was sent to me by, Doyle Chambers. I had > heard rumors of the LDS doing this. 2. Cagle, Gary
    3. Ok, here is my basic ensemble of Cagle's......I am comfortable with generations 1-7, with numbers 8-10 being the roadblock. I've yet to discover but two people that claim Karl is in their lineage, and I've yet to see any supporting documents on this guy and his descendants. The most interesting piece of the puzzle was with Lee Elbridge Cagle. His mother died shortly after his birth in Feb 1880. His parents Robert and Sarah married October 1879. Lee was found in the McNairy county 1880 census living with the Luttrell family as an orphan. His father Robert, and an 8 year old Allen Cagle was living with the Pettigrews. I don't know where Allen came from or went. No other clues. 10 Leonhart "Leonhard" Kegel 1684 - 1754 +Susannah Unk 1684 - 09 Karl "Charles" Wilhelm Cagle 1722 - 08 John Cagle 1770 - 1815-1832 + Lucy 1770 Married: 1797 in Burke County, North Carolina 07 John Cagle 1803 - 1875-1880 +Rachel Fox 1804 - 1860-1870 Married: October 14, 1828 in Burke County, N.C. 06 William B?. 3. Sandra, We have a Pleasant Cagle on our Civil War list at http://www.angelfire.com/pa/civilwarcagle. He was attached to a Tennessee CSA unit and was said to have switched sides and gone Union. I don't know if this is your Pleas or not, but it's worth a look. Tom Saegertown, PA
