Still looking for information re: Robert CAGLE, Sr., father of Robert CAGLE, Jr. and Henry Cagle who were in Decatar Co., TN ca 1840-1860 Wife of Robert Sr. was Jemima ? Any help welcome. Clyde <gotcher@ktis.net> Hermann, MO
Earl, The 1810 census for Warren Co., Ky shows: Leonard Cagle 2001-001 Sampson Cagle 001-201 It has been suggested that these Cagles were sons of Leonard Cagle, d. ca 1805 GA? These appear to be the Cagles your are referring to. Leonard's wife was Elizabeth who was born in 1788. Jacob Cagle of Taylor Co., KY was born in 1796 and was just 12 years younger than Elizabeth. John G. Cagle indicates that Lindsay Cagle, b. 1807 was the oldest son of Leonard and Elizabeth. Perhaps Jacob could be a younger brother of Leonard? Need some help from you KY Cagles. Hi Earl and list, Leonard Cagle, son of John, son of David married Elizabeth Smith and moved to Kentucky. According to my information all their children were born in KY, the first being born in 1807. Most of the children were listed as being born in Allen Co KY, which is the county immediately south of Warren. There is a good chance that one was formed from the other. Either way I would bet this is the Leonard you saw on the tax list. If my information is correct they were in KY at least from 1807 to 1830. Take care. Gary
Good Morning List, Back before I moved from Columbia to Bowling Green, Mo; I had some limited data on Cagle's, from Kentucky. This however, some how got lost in the move. There was a census made from tax records for 1800. This was to compensate for the lost census records. This was found in a book titled "First Census Of Kentucky". >From memory there was I beleive a Leonard Cagle listed for Warren Co; Ky. There seems like it was one or two more, but I can't remember. This I think would be where the Kentucky Cagle's, started from. Does this sound familiar to anyone on the list? Earl
Thank You for responding to Jacob Cagle. I was beginning to think I'd made too many mistakes. I'll try Tenn. next. I wasn't sure that James N. was his son. Jacob just seems to disappear after the 1870 census. I am related to the various family members from Green, Larue, and Nelson. I have traced my roots back to Jacob Cagle and just got stuck. Jacob was my Great -Great -Great -Great-Great- Grandfather. Thanks Again Dennis Cagle
Dennis, >From the work of John G. Cagle, as your Jacob Cagle appears in the 1850 census of Taylor Co., KY, he was 54 years old and born in NC. His wife, Minerva (Curry?) was 43 born in KY. Below, you are not showing his oldest son James N. who was born in TN in 1827. You may need to look in Tennessee in 1830 for Jacob and his family. Also living with the family in 1850 was John Curry, 77 NC, Elizabeth Curry, 75 VA, and Cassanova Curry, 40. You might try looking for John Curry in Tennessee as well. In 1840 Jacob was enumerated in Green Co., KY. From 1880 through 1910, various members of this family appear in Green, Larue, and Nelson Co.'s KY. I am a desendant of Jacob Cagle. According to the census records I've found, Jacob Cagle was born in South or North Carolina in approx. 1797. I have no record of his death. Jacob was in Kentucky from 1840 till 1870. Jacob Cagle married Maervia Curry . Maervia Curry was born in Ky. in approx. 1807. I have no record of her death. They had at least eight children. dau.- Josephine Cagle born 1830 in Ky. dau.- S.E. or L.E. Cagle born 1831 or 1832 in Ky. dau.- A.L. Cagle born 1834 in Ky. dau.- Betsy B. Peter Lowkenore, who was married to Betsy Cagle , later appeared in the 1830 census of Lincoln County, NC. P. 183 as Peter Loughenore. To date, no further information has been found on Catharine and rebecca Cagle, John's daughters who were still unmarried as of 1823. Regarding Jacob Cagle the youngest child of the deceased John Cagle, it is known that he was born ca.1815, since he was apprenticed to a blacksmith in 1824, at the age of nine years . The record of his indenture is preserved from the July 1824 Cout Session from Burke County: Jacob Keagle now nine years of age, minor son of John Keagel, decd, bound to Henry Tritt until 21 years of age, to be taught to read , write and cypher to the rule of ___________, to be taught the rrade of a blacksmith, to recover with his freedom a good set of blacksmith tools, one store suit of clothes and home made shirt. It will be remembered that Henry Tritt was a witness to a land puchase by Leonard Cagle in Lincoln (Catawba) Co. in 1805, and the Balser Treat (or Tritt) was a nieghbor to Leonard Cagle in Lincoln Co. from 1805 to 1815. regardin the appearance of young Jacob Cagle in later records, he has not been positively identified as a head of houshold in any census listing. However, the possibility might be considered taht he was identical to Joacob Cagle, born ca.1815, who appeard as follows in the 1850 cenus of Pike Co., Missouri: Cagle, Jacob 35 b-NC Farmer /$600 p.202 Mary 42 Va Bennett, Aaron 17 Mo In School Love, James 11 " " " Spencer , Malinda 30 " " " John's oldest sons Henry Cagle and John Cagle (Johnathan) were also in the estate papers of Moses Bentley, who died in 1827. John the one they said died in the war. John G. Cagle said he thought maybe Capt. john did not die and he was born 1753, he date of birth would fit much better than the other John . because even the children of John the birthdates are late for him also. dose this make any sence.????? The big question? Is this John Cagle the son of Charles Cagle d. ca 1801 (1803 estate papers) or George Cagle c. 1750 d. 6 Nov 1825? John G. Cagle, after discovering the Elias Horn Will (CAGLE JOURNAL December 1995, page 6), seemed to lean toward the possibility John could be the son of Charles. The chart of George Cagle's (d. 6 Nov 1825) children, prepared by Mr. Luther, Burchinal which APPEARS in John G. Cagle's, CAGLE JOURNAL, June 1991, page 4, shows George having a son John (b. 1780 d. 1850) who probably went to TN. Are both references speaking of the same person, or are we looking at two people with similar birthdates places of residence? How about some opinions on this subject? Jimmy B.
