(b.Nov. 1891) Notes: One strange aspect of these records is Harmon's age, which is shown as 20-30 in 1840, 30 in 1850, 48 in 1860, 45 in 1870 and 62 in 1880. as in shown in the article on Harmon's parents, William and Sarah Bruer Cagle, it is highly probable that Harmon was born circa 1820. Hen died in teh 1890s, probably 1893 judging from the records fiven below It is likewise difficult to pinpoint the year of birth of Nancy since she is shown successively as being as being 20-30, 33, 46, ? and 66. On balance it would seem she was born in 1814 and probably several years older than Harmon. The 1850 census shows , from the States of birth of Mary and Patsy, that Harmon moved his family from Moore County, NC to Georgia between 1842 and 1845. Note also that Harmon was illiterate and reiterated in the 1880. The young female, Narcissa, in the 1860 census was obviously the same person as Nancy Jane . the 1870 cenus is confulsing since so much of the record for Harmon is inconsistent with other evidence: Harmon's age and state of birth, the children's middle initials; and the name and state of his wife's birth. Another inconsistency APC reported that Harmon's estate suffered considerable damage during the Civil War. where as comparison of the 1860 and 1870 census records show his worth increasing from $800 in 1860 to $1300 in 1870. It is posible that this was a different Harmon or was just very inaccurate reporting, APC's 1906 biography stated that after Nancy's death in 1886, Harmon married Elizabeth Hall and had three more children . The woman Lizabeth Cagle, who appears with three children in the 1900 census was Harmon's second wife and widow. Elizabeth Hall was seven years younger than Harmon's last child by Nancy. the 53 year spread between the birth of Harmon's first child. Anderson Penn, and his last Harmon Jr. is remakable. In June, 1971, Cala Carrmack Park and her husband Wilbur Park's copied records in Gainsville, Ga. pertaining to Harmon Cagle . (Mrs. Park is the daughter of Jennie Elena Cagle Carmmack, granddaughter of Tyler Z. Cagle , and great-granddaughter of Anderson Penn Cagle .) Her information is as follows: Harmon Cagle Married Elizabeth Hall , in Hall County, GA on May 30 1886 , marriage book C. page 305. this confirms that Nancy died between late 1880 and early 1886. On November 12, 1892, Harman Cagle was grantor to Elizabeth Cagle "In considertaion of $1 in hand and more especially for and in consideration of the natural love and affection the said Harmon Calge has for his wife said Elizabeth Cagle ... hereby gives all that tract of land on waters of Mulberry River.... 100 acres more of less. Signed Harmon Cagle " Book Y, page 391 This Transfer of property from Harmon to Elizabeth would seem to mean he was in poor health and was seeking to secure the position of his second wife. As is shown by the next record, he was dead by Oct. 28, 1895. John G. Cagle would guess he died by very late 1892 or in 1893. On October 28, 1895 Elizabeth Cagle sold to J.A.S. stephens ten acres for $25 in the Flowery Branch District. Signed by her mark. The deed was recorded on October 28, 1899 (?) in Deed Book, P (2). Note that Elizabeth could not sign her name. On April 3, 1897, Elizabeth Cagle mortgagged 20 acres of the "Harmon Cagle place" to Martha J. Hemphill . Book L, Page 563. In 1897 Elizabeth sold 16 acres of $25 to J.B. Woods. Recorded March 9, 1897. On December 1, 1900 , Elizabeth sold 24 acres to J.A.S Stephens. In 1904 she sold to W.D. Hawkins 70 acres for $100 on waters of Mulberry River. Deed Book 10. Page 235. These records seem to indicate that Elizabeth had to sell her property to support herself and her children after Harmon's death. The fact that more than the original 100 acres were sold may mean she had other assets beyond those given to her by Harmon. On last sepeculation on Harmon Cagel regards the source of his first name. Althoug there were Harmon families in Moore County, NC., when he was born, it is quite likely that he was names after his morther Sarah Bruer's brother, Harmon Brewer (Bruer), who appeared as head of a household in the 1810 census of Moore County, NC. 31 v. 17 v. Hi all, I want to wish a very happy birthday to Nancy Jane Balmer. Nancy I'm not sure which day in April you were born, but I'm delighted you were. You have been an inspiration to myself, asd one of my first contacts in the Cagle research. I'm sure all others here share my amazement at your dedication to continous research, and posting of data to help others. Hi List, it feels like it has been a long time since I've been around, but I am a true Cagle List Reader. Thought I share with you that my husbands great cousin and I found each other while browsing queries and we have been working together on our tree. We have now prooven withouth a shadow of a doubt, that Pleas Cagle, was a Pleas Chapman Cagle and his father has the same name. His wife was Mary Ann Wallace (her origination is not know yet). Grandpa Pleas was born in Tunnel Hill, Johnson County, Illinois, but from here we are once again stuck. We have found 1148 ancestors in 5 months and are very proud of it. We have been burning up the wires! Pleas and his family moved at some point to Nebraska and then they returned to the area again. The family is buried here in Caruthersville, Missouri. We have walked graveyards and have made ourselves a nuissence at the funeral home. I guess that's what hardcore researchers do. Pleas died as I had mention before by a fallen tree and the family is in union by saying that his father Pleas, was also killed in a simular way. If anyone has any info on these Pleas', please share with us. They were all at one point around Johnson County, Alexander Country in Illinois, New Madrid, MO area. Have a great day everyone sandra
