    3. Hello Virginia, I'm researching the Cagle/Cox families of western N.C. and S.C. I also have a cousin, Jimmy Orr and his mother who are interested in the Cagles and Orr's of N.C. I don't have anything on the Orr's or Clayton's that you don't already show. Jimmy on the other hand may be able to help you some, I'm not sure, but I've posted your message to the Cagle list, and as soon as I can find Jimmy's email address again I'll send it to him also. Thank for the info and I hope someone can help you and that your info can help someone else. Eddie C. Cox Belton, S.C. 1. Re: Robert "J.R." Cagle
    2. My Aunt, Louise Frasher (daughter of James A. Cagle/Martha McNeley) says: "This is dad's brother Aud's (Henry Aud Cagle's) son. Lived with uncle Aud and worked with him in shipyards (Kaiser Shipyards, in Richmond, Ca), in 1942. He had a son we called J.R., a daughter named Donna June, one named Patty, and a girl my age named Imajean [sp?] . Imajean and I used to play together in Picher,Ok. Guess their mother Sylvie is dead." Linda is not the 1st wife of Aud, he was first married to Silvia (don't know last name). Imajean (Jean Johnson), Patty (Pat Osborn), and Donna (Golledge) are the sisters of J. R. listed in the obit. I'll try to get my Aunt on the mailing list. She's a good source. Hope this helps! 3. Hi all, Earlier today while lookng at a copy of the 1860 Floyd Co Georgia census that pertains to my Foster family I noticed that there were two CAGLE girls aged 12 & 10 listed in my 2gr-grandfather's home. They were Cornillia and Nancy Cagle. Is there anyone out there who knows of a connection between the Cagle's and Foster's or perhaps Cagle and Hatch as my 2gr-grandmother was a Hatch. Thanks for any assistance. Gary Hawley

    1. Leonard Cagle, b 1730
    2. THE CAGLE FAMILY
    3. I want to follow up on some information sent out by Nancy Jane about Leonard Cagle, b. 1730 son of Leohhart. Leonard and his wife Susannah Richardson are my gr, gr, gr, gr, grandparents and I was hoping someone might be able to clarify some things. Nancy wrote: 8 vi. Leonard Cagle, born 1730 in Obermehilgen , Germany or Rotterdam, Holland; died 1808 in Clark County, Georgia. He married Susannah Richardson. Notes for Leonard Cagle: Several other possible children , not named in Georgia records , from various othere records. Some other children of Leonard Cagle and Susanna Richardson include two daughters, names unknown, born 1774-90, according to the 1790 census . Leonard Cagle, 1780-1845, and Sampson Cagle, 1782-1874, who moved from Montgomery County, NC. to Warren County, KY. by 1807, . Robert , Simon and Paul Cagle, born in 1780s and Adam and Abraham Cagle, born in the 1790s all of Hickman and Perry Countys of Tennessee. Leonard Cagle, 1740-1814, wife Susanna Richardson Cagle: Leonard's first land grant was in 1768 , Cumberland Co. North Carolina, 200 acres both along the water of little Buffalo Creek. He sold this land in the late 1770 and bought land at beer creek, 50 acres, was granted to him on December1790. Land Lottery in Georgia 1803-1807. after the Land Lottery, Leonard moved back to North Carolina. My Questions: -- In looking at this information Leonard is shown b. 1730 and d. 1808 in Clark Co., GA. In the information about his land holdings it has his dates a 1740 - 1814. Do we know for a fact that he died in GA in 1808 or is that speculation? Also birth years are different. --Are the children of Leonard and Susannah speculation or are they confirmed? Missing from the list is Charles Cagle b. 1789 who is the ancestor of me and Earl. --Was Leonard in Hickman & Perry Co TN? Now this relates to land holdings. He had land in NC at Buffalo Creek which he sold late 1770. Bought 50 acres at Bear Creek granted to him Dec., 1790. Where is Bear Creek? If in NC how did he have children circa 1790 (ie Adam and Abraham) in TN. Charles Cagle, my ancestor did settle in Hickman CO circa 1806. Was Leonard there as well? --He participates in the GA land lottery 1803 - 1807, moves back to NC? If he participated in this lottery did he go there from TN? Second if the 1808 GA date of death is correct did he go back to NC and then return to GA? If any body can help clarify this information I would appreciate it. I have been trying for a long time to straighten out Leonard and Susannah. Thanks! Tom Cagle Saegertown, PA

There seems to be a difference as John Jacob being the parent of Andrew Jackson, not John David.I believe that the parent is John David. Therefore I cant show reasonable assurance of this fact. Some one should be able to clear up this question.Let the Kegel pin fall on me please with an answer.Hope all Cagles are well and working hard on their families during this great day of"before taxes are due day"Of course all Cagles LOVE to pay their share.Good luck on your tax returns,Bill Bond, Oregon

David was situated on Flat Creek, which appently was a small tributary of either Bear or Cavin Creek. David's survey, of 100 acres, dose not seem to border directly on any previously owned land, and county, seems to have been sparsely populated at that early date. in 1769, David sold is track of land to William Smith , and moved westward to what is now Cabarrus County, North Carolina. David Cagle is known to have ties to three North Carolina regions: (1) Old Rowan County, 1760, and perhaps also 1750s. Probably lived somewhere along Deep River, either in Randolph of Guilford, was on tax list , sometime in 1760s, with son John , (2) Old Cumberland County, had land paten at forks of Bear and Cabin Creeks in 1767, which he sold in 1769. (3) Cabarris County, then part of Mecklenburg, had land entry in 1779, maybe died there in 1780s. Children of Johan Cagle and Katherine Cagle are: 2 i. 1. Re: Cagle Info (Leonhart Kegel )
    2. Hi Judy I havn't done alot of work on Leonhart down to Jacob April 1755 but I will send you what I have . Leonard 1730's I think is who you are asking about he was Leonhart's son and Daivd brother Descendants of (Leonhart Kegell ) Leonard * Cagle Generation No. 1 1. (Leonhart Kegell ) Leonard *1 Cagle was born 1684 in Obermehlingen, Germany, and died 1754 in Pensylvinia. He married (1) Maria Elizabeth (Unkown ) Cagle in Germany. He married (2) (Susanna Kegell ) Susanna * Cagle 1721 in Obermehling , Germany. Notes for (Leonhart Kegell ) Leonard * Cagle: Leonard Kegel, Leonard Cagle: In German Leonhart, Leonhardt, Leinhart, means a shape of a bowling pin, a shape of a cone, or a pin. also means brave heart. Leonhart was married two times. His first wife was Maria Elisabeth (deceased) last name unknown, Maria was born in 1687, and from Niedermehlingen, Germany. Together they had a daughter named Maria Margareta, born in the year 1715. It has been said there was another child born of this marriage, but there is nothing to prove or disprove this information. Confirmation Register 1729; Maria Margareta, the daughter of Leonhart Kegel, Reformed and his deceased wife Maria Elisabeth, Reformed of Niedermenlingen, Germany. daughter 14 years old. (Margareta Maria, Her real name was Maria Margarita, and her name was changed because of her mothers death. ) It is not known if Margareta Maria came to America with the family. Leonhart second marriage: Leonhart Kegel , his second wife was Susannah and her last name is unknown . They were married in Germany. Leonhart was born 1684 and was from Obermehlingen, Germany, and he was married in Germany to Susannah unknown . Susannah was born in the year 1688 and from Obermehlingen, Germany. 1728, Baptism was found on : Childs name Johan Theoblad, born the 29 of April and Baptised 1st of May. Sponcers names, Theobald Fuchs, The sponser from Alsenbon, and his wife Christina. Andreas Busch from Trippstadt, Reformed. Parnents names Leonhart Kegel and his wife Susanna Kegel, Reformed from Obermehlingen, Germany. Baptism : 1728: Baptismal register 1728 ,Trippstadt, the 14th of March Johann Andreas Buschung, and his wife Maria Elisabetha, a daughter baptised and named Maria Elisabetha. God parents Leonhart Kegel of Mehlingen, Germany, and Maria Magdalena, Johann Henrich Schmalenberger's Young wife Veronica Phillipp . Leonhart Kegell , (Leonard Cagle), his wife Susanna and their family , and other members of the Reformed Lutherans , left Mehlingen, Germany to bring their familys to America (Mehlingen is 8m- N.E. of Kaiserslautern, on B40) they went down the Rhine River to Rotterdam, Holland, they then took the ship called the Loyal Judith Via Cowes England, then from there to the Port of Philadelphia PA. and landed September 25, 1732. According to English speaking Captians and Port officials and others and by the German Immigrants themselves. There were 119 Palentine men and their families, and they were accompanied by a Lutheran Minister, named was Johannes Christian Schultz. When the immigrants landed in the Port of Philadelphia, each of the head of household on board and any on the age of 16 and older were taken to that the Oath of Allegiance to the provice and State of Pennsylvania. (Leonharts children would not have been old enough to be on the list. I think William would have been the oldest son, and he would have only been around ten or so. and the daughter would not have been on the list if she came to America because she was a female.) (The information will be in the Colonial records Vol III, on page 457, ) They did have a language problem and thats was why there was a problem with the spelling of there names, and there was more than one person putting their names on different lists. Who ever was putting there names down spelled them the way they thought it should be, thats why names are spelled in different ways on these lists. Leonhart's name was spelled two different ways on the passenger list, The German Settlers were all industrious, econmical, and thrifty famers, they were not afraid , nor ashamed of hard work, When Leonhart Kegel arrived in Philadephia County, they settled , and bought land in Berks County, PA. . The first settlement by Germans was about 1734, and organized in 1752, this became the the Capital of Reading. The name Berks County Was derived form Berks County, England. There was a man named Henrich Krehenhull , who changed his name to Henry Graybill Jr. who also lived in Mehlingen, Germany , the same time as did Leonhart and his family. Henry Graybill Jr. lived in Lancaster county, PA. and later moved to Hancock County, GA. (not sure if he came over on the same ship, as did Leonhart ?) It is not known if Leonhart and Susanna died in PA. , or moved with sons to North Carolina ?. Leonhart Kegel had a large black hat , he wore most of the time , he handed the hat down to his son John "Dutchman" Kegel , who died 1799 in North Carolina . John "Dutchman" handed the hat down to his youngest son , William who was born 1788-1860. William passed the hat down to his son Isaac, who was born 1790-1860. Isaac gave the hat to his oldest son John Westley , who in turn handed it down to his brother Spinks. Spinks then gave the hat to his sister , who sold the hat to Neil Isaac Andrew Cagle , he in turn gave the the hat to Bob Baker who donated the Hat to the Rocky Mt. Museum. (I have seen a photo of the hat, it looks like a big top hat.) and is still in the museum. There was also a chair that Leonhart would stand on while waiting for his father to come home from work. This chair was also donated to a Museum , (Not the same Museum.) and this Museum later burned down , this Museum was in PA. , so there must have been some of his children and or grandchildren who stayed in PA. Leonhart Kegel was the ancestor of Americans numbering some 17,000 , individuals, plus. Thousands of other desendents who bear other surnames. It was not uncommon for German people to be known by more than one name, since they used there middle names. It has been said that the Kegel's changed the spelling of their names when they moved to North Carolina .
