    3. Richard, I am posting your message to the "Cagle List" so that perhaps someone with knowledge of this particular line will be more helpful than I. 2. David Cagle
    3. Lee, >From the "Cagle Journal" Sept. 1991 by John G. Cagle: From the records of St. Johns Lutheran Church near Dutch Buffalo Creek in Cabarrus Co., Anna Mary Cagle, b. 1794, and John Cagle, b. 17 Jan. 1797, were baptized 28 Jan. 1798. Parents were Velti Cagle and wife, Catherine. If Valentine was born 1750-54, he was probably born in PA. After 1754 to 1759, he was probably born in "Old Rowan, which later became Guilford and is now Randolph Co., NC. The Cagle clan apparently moved from PA to NC 1754-55. Although Valentine's father, David, owned land in Cumberland, later Moore Co., NC, there is no evidence that David ever lived there. Per John G. Cagle. The last record of Valentine Cagle appears to be the 1815 Tax List of Warren Co., TN. Thus his proposed death date. The last record of David Cagle, b. 1728, that I am aware of is his obtaining a Patent on 150 acres of land in Mecklenburg Co., NC, later Cabarrus, dated 2 Nov. 1784. David's son John became the owner of this land in 1789, which suggests a death date for David of 1784-89. I have seen nothing firmer than that. 3. Daniel: If you are referring to a Coat of Arms, and I think you are, yes, there is a Coat of Arms for Kegel. I don't know if he was a descendent of ours; however, it is officially documented in Burke's General Armory which is available in most libraries. I am still trying to get the name of the Kegel for whom the Arms were awarded. Most German Coats of Arms were awarded during the Christian Crusades and we have not researched our lineage back that far, however, the name for the Coat is Kegel. I will report what I find on the list as soon as I have the information. 3. Jimmy, I appologize for not responding sooner, however, I have had a little health problem the last couple of days and am just now getting around to answering email. I agree with your previous posting. I might add, I have only been into genealogy a few months and lack the extensive knowledge of you who have been at this for many years. The only thing I could add would be, if possible, I know it would be time consuming but, if you could go over the postings and advise if your information is any different than that being posted. In those cases where there is a difference, state the difference and your source. >From what I have read on the list, John G. Cagle is our foremost researcher. If you have his journals you might quote them as your source. I am sure all would agree, he is probably the best source in those cases where definitive evidence is lacking. 2. Le Roy A Cagle
    3. List: I note in the following message there is no mention of Anna Maria b. May 1794. Was this ommission an error. It can't be because she died before adulthood, since this was followed by a story which predicted the death of Dellia. I note too, the DOB of Valentine as listed below as 1746, others have posted 1750. This states he was born in Rowen County, others have posted Moore and Montgomery Counties. Further, this lists one of the sons as John Ruben Cagle b. Jan 28, 1798 and Earl posts a Johannes Kegel (obviously the same person) b. Jan 28, 1797. I realize this is minor however, shouldn't we all have a correct date. I wonder which is correct. Another thing, Nancy reports John Ruben as being born is SC. Does anyone have an explanation for Rebecca's having been in SC for his birth? This is not a biggie, just curious. I hope I am not giving the impression to you all of being a nit-picker or a smart alec. I'm just trying to make our family trees as accurate as possible. It would help if those of you who are experts and have been researching the Cagle line for many years, would review postings and either agree to it's correctness or post your differences. I know this would entail great effort as active as our list is but, it sure would help us beginners. May I add too, how much I appreciate the help many of you have given me since I began this project. I now have over 4,700 in my index. This could not have been attained without the assistance of you list members. Namely, Doyle, Nancy, Earl, David, Tom, John and lastly but, certainly not least LaMonna. If I have forgotten someone, I appologize. There have just been so many. 3. Earl: I am confused by your last posting relating to the above individual wherein you list children's baptismals of George (bro of Valentine) and Rebecca Cagle. You state one child was baptised at the same place (Rebecca) but, then go on to say "Plus her brother John Adam Kegel, who was b. 3-17-1797, baptised 1-28-1798, his mother is listed as Anna Mary Kegel." I don't show Rebecca b. 4-4-1791 having a brother named John Adam b. 3-17-1797 with a mother named Anna Mary Kegel. Infact, I don't have a John Adam at all. Are you saying that George had a 2d wife named Anna Mary Kegel, and they had a son John Adam? I do show that Rebecca had a brother John M. Will you please explain this? 3. List: Reference Earl's message concerning the baptizm of Anna Maria Kegel b: May 1794 and Johannes Kegel b: Jan 17, 1797, children of Valentine and Catherine/Claudia. It was previously reported by someone on this list that these two children were baptized at Dutch Buffalo Creek, St John's Lutheran Church, Cabarrus County, NC on the same date of Jan 28, 1798 and sponsored by Andrew and Elizabeth Stauch. I don't want to quibble over details; however, this could have bearing on these children's place of birth which is a legitimate question. Would the list member who posted the above information, please furnish his/her source. Additionally, does anyone know when Valentine Cagle died. I have two different dates which are 1812 and 1825, both in Warren County, Tennessee. Likewise, I have two different places of birth (1) Montgomery County, NC and (2) Moore County, NC. Which is correct. Unless someone has more compelling evidence of the parentage of Valentine, I suggest we all accept Johanne Theoboldt (David) Cagle as the proper parent. This will greatly assist future members and result in less confusion. To Earl and David: Thanks for clearing this up. Does anyone wish to comment on LaMonna's posting of the first three generations as previously posted by Nancy Balmer or may we all accept that information as the most recent? This book does not give the present location of the original Licens Book for Haskell Co. Ok, but I would guess that a copy of photo copy migt be found at the Oklahoma State Archives in Oklahoma City, or the Choctaw Tribal Archives. Yor will recall that Charles A. Cagle wa in Haskell Co. 3. Lee, I think Nancy Jane inadvertently picked up the "John Ruben" from me. My Great Grandfather was John Reuben Cagle, son of Isaac, son of John, son of Velti, son of David, son of Leonhart. When I was giving her the information on my Cagle line, I think she put the "Ruben" in the wrong place in her file. 3. For my two cents worth I have to agree with, David. >From everything I have read Valentine Cagle, was a son of David Cagle. Valentine, is reported to have been b. abt.1750. Two of Valentine & Catharina's children, were baptised by the Rev.Macard at Bear Creek in Montgomery (Stanley) Co; NC. Anna Maria Kegel b. may 1794, baptised 1-28-1798. Johannes Kegel b. 1-17-1797, baprised 1-28-1798. There was also one child of George & Rebecca Kegel, baptised at the same place. This was Rebecca Kegel b.4-04-1791, baptsed on 12-25-1797. Plus her brother John Adam Kegel, who was b. 3-11-1797, baptised 1-28-1798, his mother is listed as Anna Mary Kegel. There were not many baptisal records that survied this time period. These are some of the few early Kegel baptisims that did. Those who are ancestors of George or Valentine, these records will help. Earl

Henry was inlisted as a Arkansas Confederate in Company B. 2nd Mounted Rifles, also known as the Mounted Dragoons, Henry Enlisted on July 15, 1861, and fought for the Condfederates until he was wounded on August 31, 1864, He was in the Hospital at Baarnesville, Georgia near Love Joy, Georgia. Henry's leg had to be amputated. Henry appears on the inspeciotn report, commaned by Brig. Gen. D.H. Reynolds, reported date September 18 1864. Henry was a 2nd Lieutenant . Notes: The 2nd Regiment of Arkansas the Mounted Rifles was to provide the firepower of an Infanty Regiment with the mobility of a Cavalry unit. Rather than possessing the advantages of each group they attempted to combine, this multiplied the disadvantages. The 2nd mounted rifles served relatively for a briff period of time. They were transferred to the east bank of Mississippi River in the Spring of 1862, The regiment was dismounted. It was requested to have it remounted but they conrinued to serve as infantry for the rest of the war. Company B, 2nd Mounted Rifles, was made up of men from the area now known as Pottsville, Russellville, Atkins and as far east as Point Remove. The company was composed of 86 men and commanded by Benjamin T. Embry a successful farmer and merchant, who resided at what is now Arkins , Arkansas . The company originally organized as Cavaly and were required to furnish their own horses and accoutermants. They travelled approximately 150 miles to Osage Prairie outside of Bentonville, Arkansas where they were sworn into the Confederate Service. Benjamin T. Embry, the original company Commander was promoted to Lt. Col. of the Regiment and 1st Lt. Peter W. Parker became Captain. The Regiment was disignated 2nd Arkansas Mounted rifles and Command was given to James McQueen McIntosh a West Point Graduate from Kentucky. Company B. 2nd. Arkansas Mounted rifles had 86 men in its original roster. in 1865 at the surrender of the Army of Tennessee there were only 8 men remaing of the original 86. Out of the Refiment that was originally composed of 1,200 men, there was only 84 of the original roster . The 2nd Arkansas Mounted Rifles had fought from the Western reaches of the Confederacy to it eastern shores. They had fought in 9 states and over 30 engagements. The 2nd Arkansas Mounted Rifles had become known as one of the finest and harest and most reliable fighting units in the Army of Tennessee. J. A. Henry , M.D. was one of the origianal members of Company B. 2nd Arkansas Mounted Rifles and there was only 8 survivors of the company at the end of the war. There was only 8 out of the Company who were present for parole at the end of the War. J. A. Henry was the Grandson of Silas A. Henry. Henry was 49 years old when he went in the Confederate, on the paper work it look's like it says 19 years old , One of the decendent said that Henry only had one leg. story on Henry coming home from the service said he was burning up with fever , Martha went to get water , and when she returned bushwackers had killed him and a young boy, Henry's daughters Nancy and Suzie, tryed to fight them off and save the boy , but was unable to . Young boy was either a son , or a grandson , a child of Nancy or Suzie's. Emeline said Martha was Cherokee Indian, ( her Indain name might have been Pine Tree) . Martha lived to be 95 years old, she died Febraury 02, 1910, and is buried at Oak Ridge Cemetery , Jethro, Franklin County, Akansas . Next to Martha's grave there is a Dogwood tree planted beside her headstone. This has been said to be Martha's favorite tree, she loved the flowers. The Legend of the Dogwood Tree There is a legend, that at the time of Jesus Christ's Crucifixion the dogwood was the size of the oak and other forest trees. So firm and strong was the tree that it was chosen as the timber for the cross. To be used thus for such a cruel purpose greatly distressed the tree, and Jesus, nailed upon it, sensed this, and in his suffering said to it: Because of your regret and pity for My suffering, never again shall the dogwood tree grow large enough to be used as a cross. Henceforth it shall be slender and bent and twisted and its blossoms shall be in the form of a cross...two long and two short petals. And in the center of the outer edge of each petal there will be nail prints, brown with rust and stained with red, and in the center of the flower will be a crown of thorn, and all who see it will remember. This story was proved by Elizabeth Robnett who served as Bledsoe County, Historian for more than 25 years. Oak Ridge Cemetery is from I 40 off for 5.8 miles on hwy. 23 and turn left, go approximently 3 miles to Jethro Cemetery on the right side. Story: Martha's husband Henry was in the in the Civil War , and was a horseman rifle in the Confederate Army . Henry was wounded and when he came home, he was burning up with fever, his leg had been amputated , Martha went to the well or river to get water , while she was getting water , buchwackers came and killed Henry and a young boy , Nancy and Susie tried to save the child , but couldn't . They are said to have been buried north of Clarkville , Arkansas . The boy could have been a son or could have been a grandson. been told by decendents Henry only had one leg. (Morman papers say Martha I. was born 1818 , Franklin County, Tennessee. in a 1850 census of Franklin County, Tennessee she was 32 years old. One of Martha's grand-daughter has Pine Tree as a middle name, This was one of Nancy's children , and Nancy's son Grant named one of his children with the middle name of Pine Tree. I know this is not a name used by the Standridge's , because C.L. Boyd , already checked it out. When I was ten, my father brought George to live with us, so he would be taught to fram, on June 2, 1908, Greorge was sent out about a quater of a mile from our house to toll up the brush heaps for burning, about 10:00 a.m. George cagme running to the house very scared and excited, he enter the front door calling "Aunt Claudia" where is Dellia. My mother replieded, she is playing in the back yard. No No said George exclaimed, she is an angel ! she has on a white robe and she has wings, I saw her flying from one brush to another, it was Dellia, I know it was . He ran to the back yard looking for Dellia, she was playing and Geroge saw her there, and nothing was wrong, yet he was convinced that he seen her as an angel. on June 4th. just two days after George's illusion, Dellia became ill, and on June 9th she was claimed by death . 2. Hi Jim and Debra and Cagle Group This is what I have found on your Andrew Jackson , did you know he was a twin ?? this is the family that I was putting census in for and I do have a error on a Charles but I think your John and Andrew are OK. To: the group , havn't finished putting in all the census on this family, you will see two Williams, William Carroll and a William S. , don't ask me why but this is correct. it is in the census records also. He is the second to the last child , Adam W. is the youngest son . Debbie said that Andrew's wife's name is Lucinda Ingle/Engle and they had a daughter names Litha Jane Cagle .
