    1. Vicksburg Parole List
    2. THE CAGLE FAMILY
    3. Doyle and list, This is an interesting site. Thanks for sending it out. I found a couple of Cagle names not on theCagle's in the Civil War list that I will have to add. I will also add this link from the Cagle's in The Civil War Page. Just a point of information for list members, even though soldiers signed the oath many returned to Confederate units to fight again. There is at least one Cagle who although paroled at Vicksburg who stands out. Issac Cagle (GA) was paroled and then returned to the Cherokee Legion was recaptured, taken to Louisville KY and ordered to stay N of the Ohio River until the end of the war. For new members the Cagle's in The Civil War page is at http://www.angelfire.com/pa/civilwarcagle Finally, here is a genealogy joke for the day: Why waste your money looking up your family tree, just go into politics and your opponents will do it for you. Their daughter is Eliza Jane and/or Harriett James-Pedigo she died around Vernon, Tex. No grave found yet. Have picture of Eliza. Eliza had affair with Chief Hautie, or may have married him on the reservation They had Nancy Harriett Pedigo, Nancy Harriett went by name of James and Pedigo, on her death certificate it is Petigo. By her daughter in law could spell very well either. But any who, Eliza usta leave her daughter Nancy Harriett with Moses etc, and go visit the reservation week or two at a time and would not take Nancy , she always told Nancy they drank to much and was roudy and didnt want her around them. As far as Moses third wife I am assuming she new about Nancy. Some speculate Moses was married 4 times others say that the other woman was not his wife or affilated with him. But that remains to be proven, where this other woman belong. Moses owned land in Tennessee long before he left Vir. Now for Lela Virginia Wilson Cagle no one seems to know why she got this name Wilson. She was not married to a Wilson that any of the family is aware of otherwise her name would be Lela Virginia Cagle Wilson and that dont hold water either. I will try and get more info Lela and will send later. Thanks for your reply I had a good laugh. Priscilla Ps; on some of this I think I had a few mistakes which will try and correctt at a later date have 1100 e-mail and need to get some off my screen. --------------1B2F5865B8779A91C7999FF4--

    3. Doyle & List, Thanks for finding this interesting website. One day at work we were talking genealogy & The Civil War. Someone asked me if you could get discharge papers. Of course I told them that only Union soldiers received discharges. That the Confederate troops were given in some cases parole papers. Nice job in explaining this to the list, Doyle. Earl

By 1810, he moved to MS, where he and his sons Leonard and conrad appeared in various records of Amite Co. MS. and east of Feliciana Parish, LA. during the years 1810-16. It has been reported that Conrad died in 1815, and Leonard during the 1820s. It is believed that Roger died during the 1830s, as did another of his sons,Roger Jr.; both men were listed in the 1830 census of Copiah Co. MS, along with Charity Cagle widow of Leonard. It also is reported that a Josiah Cagle also appeared in teh 1816 Territorial Census of Amite Co; however, there is doubt about the correct spelling of his name , and he has not yet been difinitely verified as a Cagle 1830 Copiah County, Ms. . It is unclear to the editor if Elizabeth Cagle age 23, was the daughter of Mary, or the daughter of Henry's 1st wife. Also it is possible that Elizabeth was identical to Elizabeth Floid, 23, wife of Jackson Floid, and that she was enumerated twice in the census -- once in her father's household adn a second time in her husband's household. Isaac Cagle age 4, may have been a son of Henry and Mary Cagle, who was living temproarily in teh houshold of the Floids at the time of the census enumeration . In the household of Robert Cagle 67, it is believed that H. C. Cagle, 25 was his youngest son Henry C. Cagle, Robert also had three older sons , who had already moved away from home. 3. Hi Cagle list, I received this URl from another list, but it has a lot of Cagles named also: http://pigpen.itd.nps.gov/crweb1/vick/parole/csp_indx.htm At the end of the siege of Vicksburg, surrender terms negotiated between General's Grant and Pemberton allowed for the parole of the Confederate garrison.   The Union forces did not have to contend with prisoners of war.  Confederate soldiers signed a parole notice promising not to take up arms against the United States until they were exchanged by the proper authorities. Example parole record The Confederate Parole records which are listed in this section were transcribed many years ago onto 3" x 5" note cards.  The information was again transcribed into computer files for use on this website.  It is the only information the park has in its files relating to soldiers that were paroled after the surrender of Vicksburg. The park DOES NOT own or have access to copies of the original documents. 1. Opal Cagle
    2. I had joined the mailing list about a month ago. I had psoted a message about Opal Cagle but didn't have anything on her family. I've been getting mail mode about everyday. I did just get a new computer but my mailing address is the same and mye-mail. I sent for OPal Cagle's death certificate and from it I got her birthdate-25 Aug 1915 in Oklahoma and died 3 Dec 1996 in Coweta, Oklahoma. Her parents were Al and Margaret Cagle. Opal married William Bart Chadwell. Nancy Jane, you had sent me a e-mail from a Jodie who lived in Coweta. It didn't have all of her e-mail address. Did she live in Coweta, Wagoner co, Oklahoma or Coweta co, Ga? If she or anyone lives close to Coweta, Wagoner co, Oklahoma or Catoosa, Rogers co Oklahoma where they lived for awhile, I could use some help in research in both those towns. Bertha Cook

Wilson seens to be absent from Dunklin Co., in 1880, thoug his brothers Taylor, Alfred, and Adam Jr. are still in Dunklin in that year. (note: The acnestry of Adam Cagle remains in question, though it is known that he was a son or nephew, either of Simon or Paul Cagle of dunklin co., Mo. Adam originated in Perry county, Tennessee the former home of Paul Cagle in 1820 and 1830 censuses. Thus the possibility seems good that Adam was the son of Paul by his 1st wife ; the 1820 census of Perry co., TN, it might be noted, show that Paul did have a son in the age bracket of Adam (born in 1810s). Paul's send marriage was to Elizabeth Ann Hill, New Madrid co., MO, 1850 a widower, was about 65 years old; Elizabeth Ann, a young widow, was about 24 . Marriage was at the home of Simon Cagle, who apparenlty was loder brother of Paul (see New Madrid co. Census). Paul and Elizabeth had two daughters Jemima and Hulda Malissa, born early 1850s. this family was enumerated in 1860 Dunklin co., MO; but Paul died in the 1860s and Elisabeth was head of household in 1870 Dunklin. [Excerpted here with permission of author.] GENEALOGICAL SKETCHES CAGLE Adam Cagle was born in Tennessee in 18 1 7. His wife, Mary, was born in the same state in 1815. The county of Adam Cagle's birth is not known. However, he was one of t he very early settlers of Greene County, having arrived prior to 1850. In 1850 the family was living in Big Creek Township and their children were: Alfred, 1840; Henry, 1843; Elizabeth, 1845; and Lemuel, 1848. In 1860 the Adam Cagle family was living in Concord Township and by this latter date one more child, Adam, had been added to the household Adam was born in 1851. I put a lot of the brothers in there just incase you were looking for some of them also. Nancy Jane P.S. I didn't see an e-mail address on there for her , so I guess she is new to the group???
