I do not have a husband for her do you. ??? Mary could have married a cousin on the Whitley side. page 309: Information come form a book that was published by Mr Walter C. Whitley of Little Rock , AR call The George Whitley Family. The volume deals primarily with the descendants of Geroge Whitley III, 1787-1858 and his two wives, Rebecca Cagle, 1791-1873, and Mary (Harvell) Owens. This book is suposed to have a excellent coverage of the various family lines into the present century. George Whitley I , born ca. 1735, settled in Big Bear Creek while the area was still a part of old Anson county, The sons of George Whitley I. as given in the Whitley book. 1. George Whitley II b. 1760 Had 100 acres of land in the 1782 Montgomery Co. Tax list. Frequenlty seen in Montgomery records as George Whitley Jr. He became a Baptist preacher, and his patoral circuit included a number of old Primitive Baptist Churches in western Montgomery County. 2. Needgan Whitley. b. 1762. Apparenlty the father of Needham Whitley II, who married to a daughter of Charles Cagle, 1786-1864. 3. John W. Whitley. b. 1772, was half brother to George II and Needham Whitley 4. William Whitley b. 1775. also half-brother of George II and Needham Whitley. Known locally as "Uncle Billy" he became a regional celebrity in his old age., and died in 1890 at the age of 114. he his buried in the Huneycutt Cemetary, . George Whitley III did mary Rebecca Cagle b.1791-1873, the daughter of George and Rebecca Cagle , Rebecca died and is buried near her brother Charles Cagle 1786-1864. Needham Whitley II was the one who married a daughter of Charles Cagle. Regarding Needham Whitley II, it is known that he appeared in the 1850 and 1860 censues of Stanly County, 1850 Stanly County, Whitley, Needham 37 Rebecca 40 Thomas 16 Green 14 Emaline 13 Sarah 12 Rebecca 10 Martha 8 Mary 6 Needham 3 Talitha 2 1860 Stanly County, NC Whitley, Needham 45 Sinie 42 Sallie 21 Martha 18 Needham Jr, 14 Talitha 12 Silvey 10 Pressley 7 John 5 Needham was married 3 times and had 21 children, Mr Walter C. Whitley's book , suggests that Needham's frist marriage was to Sina Cagle, daughter of charles Cagle, 1786-1864; that Needham's second wife was a woman whom he married in NC, name unknown ; and his 3rd wife was Elizabeth Huneycutt, sister of Noah Huneycutt, whom he married before moving to Texas , however 1850 and 1860 census seem to indicate that Needham 's 1st wife was Rebecca, and second wife was Sinie , unless it could be shown that she was the smae person who went by both names (maybe the forgot how old they were )??. Then there is Mrs Gladys H. Ballew of Gainesville, TX , agrees with Mr. Whitley that he was married three times , but suggests that he had a total of 22 or 23 children. by his three marriages. She lists his first wife children as follows; Greene Probably stayed in NC. Sallie b. may 8, 1839 , md. Sidney Smith, b. 1833 (1850 census as Sarah) Rebecca md. Ennis Burris in NC, one son Lim and lter marrie John Huneycutt, brother of Noah Huneycutt. before moving to Texas. Martha md. Edmund smith, son of Moses and Mary Dry Smith and brother to Sidney Smith who married sister Sarah. stayed in NC Mary Catherine b. Nov 22, 1844 d. July 19, 1930 md. Timothy Burris, 1840-1891, on Sept. 26, 1868. Timothy was the son of David Wright Burris & Sally Whitley (dau of "Uncle Billy" Whitley) they remained in NC , both are buried at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Stanly Co. NC Needham III , Move to Texas Talitah md. Harrison Huneycutt, son of Edmund Huneycutt. 1808-1893, is buried at the Huneycutt Family Cemetary , east of Bloomington, on County Road 1249, Stanly Co. Pressley Moved to Texas John Moved to Texas no information on the two oldest children Thomas b. 1834 and Emaline, b. 1837. No information on his second wife , or his children by his third wife. Mr. Whitley's book indicates that Talitha or (Teletha), above, was born July 4, 1847, according to her death certificate, from South Albemarle Township, Stanly C. (Vol 22, p. 127. The cerificate also states that she was last seen alive by the doctor on May 30, 1935, at age 87, and lists her parents as Needham Whitley and Mary Cagle . 1850 she is listed as Rebecca , rather than Mary; perhaps her name was Mary Rebecca. The Whitley book also mentions that Rebecca was born Oct. 23, 1811 which is consistent with her age of 40 as given in the 1850 census and died Oct. 14, 1858, and is buried in Old Wiggins Cemetary, Stanly County, Mr. Whitley's book also states that Sinie's maden name was Cagle, He also suggests that Sinie was the daughter of Charles Cagle, 1786-1864; this has not been proven , but it might be noted that Charles did have a daughter named Susan , born c. 1820, living in his houshold in the 1850 census , who was quite near to the age of Sinie (b. 1818, according to the 1860 census. The 1830 census for Charles Cagle's household (1011001-0012101) included two daughters born between 1810-and 1815, who would correspond to Rebecca's birthdate of 1811. Thus the possibility might be considered that both Rebecca and Sinie were daughter of Charles Cagle 1786-1864. There is one other source from a Mrs Julia H. Goza, in her query in the 1871 issue of the Georgia Genealogical magazine p. 233, mentions that a Mary Cagle, daughter of David Cagle , b. 1767, was married to a married to a Mr. Whitley (David, 1767-1852, who appered in the 1800 and 1810 censues of Montgomery co, NC before moving to Ga, was the older brother of Charles, 1786-1864. the first name of this mr. Whiley is not fiven, but althogh he originated in the Montgomery Co. area, he was probably not identical to Needham Whitley II. This Mary Cagle, daughter of David , was seemingly born in the 1790s (according to the 1810 census) which would make her too old to have been the wife of Needham. Moreover, David is believed to have moved to Ga. by 1816, and thus would have been out of NC by over a decade by the time Needham Whitley married his first wife. it might be wondered, however, whether the firs wife of Needham Whitley could have been identical to the Mary Whiley who was involved in an Anson co. Land transcrion with a David Cagle in 1834. This David was born 1780s is believed to have been the son of Hemry Cgale, born 1760-65, and is known to have married Betty Stgner in 1806. David according to the 1830 census in Anson Co. (1221201-1220001), did have a daughter born between 1810 and 1815 whos age would correspond to that of Needham's wife Mary Rebecca. In 1834, David bought 200 acres of land in Anson Co. from a Mary Whitley; however, the age of thsi Mary Whiley is not known, and there is no definite reason for thinking that she was identical to the Mary Cagle, who married Needham Whitley. (in the deed this Mary was either single or a widow. Charles b.1786, and David, b. 1780s would seem to be the two best possibilities. I guess I went a little overboard here. so another mystery for us all. Nancy Jane Tarzana, Ca. April 1945 --part1_57d8e1b8.24c95c09_boundary--
LDS database has Mary Rebecca Cagle, d/o Charles Robert Cagle and Elizabeth Springer, as wife of Needham Whitley. Other sources have Sinia Susannah Cagle. d/o Charles Robert Cagle and Elizabeth Springer, and Rebecca Morton, d/o Ezekiel Morton and Elizabeth Brumbalow, as wife of said Needham Whitley. No where do I have in my database Charles Robert Cagle and Elizabeth Springer as the parents of a Mary Rebecca. There have recently been some postings on this list concerning the CAGLEs of Mississippi, so this may be a good time for me to ask again about the second wife of my great grandfather, Joseph S. FAIRCHILD. On 18 Oct 1901 in Copiah Co, MS (probably in Crystal Springs), Joseph S. FAIRCHILD married his second wife, the widow Mrs. Lizzie (Elizabeth?) CAGLE. Lizzie was b. Apr 1863 in MS. At the time of their marriage, Lizzie had the following CAGLE children (all b. in MS): Mamie, b. 1884 Walter, b. 1885 Jesse, b. 1889 Maggie, b. 1893 (took the name FAIRCHILD) Carroll Lee (called Sexton), b. 1886 (took the name FAIRCHILD) It has been suggested that Lizzie's first husband was Jesse CAGLE, but I have no proof of that. I estimate that Lizzie's first husband would have been born about 1860 and they married about 1883, but those are just guesses. He would have died between about 1886 and 1900. Can anyone out there identify this family? I would like to know Lizzie's maiden name, the given name of her CAGLE husband, and how he ties into the CAGLE family discussed on this list. Thanks for any help. Merritt mmullen@ridgecrest.ca.us Merritt D. Mullen Ridgecrest, CA

So lets see if she wants to do anymore reseach on the Cagle's and or join or group. I already e-mailed her back and asked her if there was anymore information about the places and children . In the 1820 censuses , Charles was apparently in Tennessee.: but, by 1840, had moved to Walker Co., AL. (that part which is now Winston County), and was listed with his six sons and two daughters as follows; Cagle , Charles 1122001-0100101 His location for the 1850 census was Hancock (Winston) Co., AL. Her mother was Margaret Cagle , ca.1806-1871, daughter of Charles Cagle, b. 1780s and who died in Warren County, TN in 1842. The Charles who seems to match their description most closely would be Charles Cagle of 1840 Walker Co. AL. (now Winston Co.) who had six sons and two daughters at home in 1840. The fact that Jeremiah and Loyd H. later owned land in Winston Co. in 1855 and 1857 show that they did have ties to Winston. 1850 Hancock (Winston Co.) Al. ?? 1860 Marion County, AL. Hi List: Does anyone recognize a William Ulysses Cagle, b.1869 in Bradley County Tennessee. His father was Peter Cagle b. 1830 in Pigeon ? Tennessee, Monroe, not sure if Monroe was county or name of city. Trying to find Peter's full name, his wife's name and especially his parents names. Thank You. Liz
Cagle List, For special reasons I have recently been researching the areas around the state of Washington for Cagle names. In the state of Idaho I find the following which may have been submitted previously, but if not, it may help track some Cagle families in their journeys to the west coast. Hope it helps someone. These Cagles are a little far afield from our usual areas. However, a lot of Cagles did, in fact, travel to the far west during the 1800s.
