Good Morning List, Hope everyone had a good Labor Day Week-end! I have some additional information to share about a Keagle family from PA starting in the 1760's that later shows up in Illinois with a name change to Cagle. I've posted below what I have gleaned from a variety of sources including LDS, 2 Cagle researchers and some postings on Query Boards in various PA counties. As you look at the information I would like you to note that there MAY be a connection to Moore Co, NC. If that is the case and that connection can be proven then I think this is a "Cagle" family that remained and some of whom still are in PA. Second, so you understand PA geography, Cumberland Co mentioned in the information is SW of Harrisburg and about 70 miles west of Berks Co. Finally, remember that this information is speculation put out for discussion and further research. If any of you have information on any of the people mentioned here I would appreciate your sharing it with the group. Thanks! Tom Cagle Saegertown, PA Frederick Keagle b. 1745 Cumberland Co, PA d. 1790 Cumberland Co, Greenwood Twp. Married Margaret ? and has the following children: --Jacob Samuel b. 1765 Cumberland -- Elizabeth b. 1780 -- Margaret b. 1785 --David -- MAry --Henry --George Jacob Samuel Keagle son of Frederick marries Anna Mary ? and have the following children: --Frederick b. 1785, PA --John b. 1793 or 94. LDS also shows him d. 1860 Moore Co, NC --John Samuel b. 1796 --George b. 1798, PA --David b. 1798 PA --Mary b. 1803 --Henry b. 1805 -- Samuel b. 1808 -- Margaret b. 1809. I had to laugh when I read this. There certainly seem to be a lot of bad seeds in the Cagle family. Doesn't seem to matter which line you are from! However, I'm a very nice person. Usually. If I take my medication. :-) Keep the faith. We shall overcome! Laurie Wier, Descendent of James Alexander Cagle (thru Thomas Jefferson Cagle, John David Cagle, David Benjamin Cagle, Charles Cagle, Jacob Cagle, Johan Dewalt Cagle, Leonhart Cagle) In a message dated 8/29/99 10:11:34 PM Central Daylight Time, EKesler@aol.com writes: << Howdy Cagles: I''m here, just reading what comes over the wire. Still looking for that elusive Cagle family: William Ulysses; Albert Joseph; Peter, etc. Peter born Sevier Cty in 1828; William in 1869 in Bradley, found census 1860-1880 in Bradley with them on it but no other references anywhere. Just recently by accident found a Harry Lee who is about 75 yrs old with Ernest Jr and Ernest Sr also in family. I tried to talk to Harry Lee but he refused to talk about the family, said they were really bad people and didnt want to tell me anything, so of course now I'm especially curious!!!! Would really appreciate any info anybody might have. Thanks everyone, Liz >>
Nancy Jane, in an email dated 8/4/99, about my line of Stokes, descendants of William Henry Stokes and Mary Margaret (Cagle?), Silas Stokes m. Martha Jane Cagle. Their youngest child, Martha Lou Stokes, B. July 27, 1896, Winfield, Marion County, AL d. June 9, 1898, Winfield, Marion County, AL. Her death place is incorrect. She died in Greenway, Clay Co., AR and is buried in Mitchell Cemetery, Greenway, Clay Co., AR. She is buried next to her parents. I have pictures of her stone and her parents stone. Her stone is a very small one and was hard to read. It just says M. L. Stokes., dau of Sam J., 27 July 1896-6 Sep 1898. You stated that Silas married a cousin. I am having trouble figuring that out. Would you help me out please! Shirley McMahon Garrett Tyler, TX

The information I sent on John and Martha Cagle has a typo for Enoch. His birth is 1835 not 1853. Tom
If you recall a couple of days ago I sent out a question about Joseph Cagle who was b. 1819 in Dauphin Co, PA. To refresh your memory, Dauphin Co. is close to Berks and I was wondering why his family was in this area around 1820. Well' I'm still wondering but thanks to some information from John Speight and another Cagle researcher I've pieced together the following: Joseph was the son of John Farmer Cagle and Martha or Mary?. John was b. 1793 or 1794 in Moore Co, NC. Mary was b. 1793 in Moore co as well. As most of you know, this is one of the Counties were many of the Cagle's went when they left Berks Co, PA in the mid 1750's. Here are some of who I believe are the children of John and Martha/Mary: John Cagle b. 1815 Dauphin Co., PA Joseph Cagle b. 1819 Dauphin Co., PA m. Angeline Hall from Bedford Co VA and settles in Sangamon IL Samuel Cagle b. 1825 IL Enoch Cagle b. 1853 Moore Co., NC Harrison Cagle b. 1836, Ohio Charlotte Cagle b. 1842 IL Members of this family did settle in IL and there was an apparent name change to Keagle. My questions are: --Does anyone know who that parents of John Farmer Cagle are and how he may relate to Leonhart? --Why would he move back to PA for a period of time? My suspicion is that there was still family back in PA. . Does anyone know of other Cagles, by any spelling who may have lived in the Harrisburg area of PA circa 1815? I'm also struck by the fact that this family moved A LOT and over long distances. If you follow the places of birth by date you will see what I mean. Thanks and have a good day! Tom Cagle Saegertown, PA
How timely. I had over 8,700 names in my data base and this dang computer just wiped out 4,000. Very discouraging. I had no backup. I do still have the main branch but, lost almost all the others. I am still searching and adding but, when I do, it deletes something so, I am keeping hand written notes until I figure out how to transfer my files to a CD. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is going on or how to correct it? Is the hard drive full?
