Hi Everyone, I recently got a copy of a new Hickman Co., TN pictorial history and the following Cagle's (dates where known) were pictured in it. Charles (1937), Junior (1937), Ray (1937), Elgie, Howard (WWII), Jess (1912), Jethro, Larry (1962), Mildred, Norris, and Thomas and Sarah Catherine Chandler Cagle. On a personal note it was a suprise to me to find Thomas and Sarah as they are my great grandparents and I have never seen a photo of them before. Also pictured was the Cagle and Coble Mill in Coble, owned jointy I believe by Samuel Cagle and possibly his brother Thomas (same Thomas as above) as well as a Coble. Finally, there is a picture on the Church of Christ in Coble that, according to another history of Hickman Co was built by Thomas Cagle (same as above) who was also the minister. The Coble school was on the second floor of the Church. Other than Thomas and Sarah I have no idea who these other Cagles are, but here they are in case anyone else is related. You got my curiosity up enough to look it up in my desktop dictionary (Merriam-Webster's New Collegiate). According to the dictionary, the word "step" as in "step-son" is actually a different word than the usual word that means to walk or the steps on a staircase, etc, which comes from the Old English "staepe". The "step" as in "step-son" comes from the Old English "steop" meaning related by virtue of remarriage, and not by blood. Merritt > ______________________________ > From: gotcher@ktis.net (Clyde E. Hello out there. Was just wondering - How did it come about that "step" became associated children of another marriage ie "step son", "step-father" etc,etc.. Seems to me that a "stepchild" would be one that had been left on a step/stoop by someone who didn't want them rather than the issue of a bona fide marriage. Nothing to do with the list - just a question that I asked myself as I was reading. Clyde
LaMona, Welcome back to the Cagle Family List. Sorry to hear about your computer problems. Nancy Jane, I am sure will help with what she can. To everyone on the list now would be a good time to post your family line. Earl
Earl: Cagle list I just wanted everyone to know I lost everything in my computer. My son had to rebuild my computer. I am LaMona Phillips to all the new Cagle family. I have been down for near two weeks. I wanted Lee Cagle to know just after his family tree program crashed. I lost more than a FT program. I have everything new and like my scanner as yet it don't want to co-operate so have not decided what to do about that. To Nancy Jane I will be calling on you as time goes by for some replacements. For the others that don't know me I descend from Leonhart [1]Kegel, (Leonard Cagle) Henry[2] Cagle 1730-1802 that married not later than 1754 to Catrena Seitz, and left a will in Moore County, NC, through his son William C.[3] Cagle, born abt. 1754 and married 1787 to Mary Barrett both died after 1850 Sevier County, TN, and thought to be buried in Ellajoy Cemetery in unmarked graves Blount Co., TN, William C. Hi Le Roy and other Cagle's: I don't know the parents of Jacob Cagle. I don't know how he fits in. Someone has said that maybe Jacob Cagle was a brother or cousin of Leonard or Sampson? I don't have any proof yet just who were the parents of Jacob Cagle??????? If anyone has any information I would, I sure would love it. I have been looking for over a year! Thank You Bye Dennis Cagle
Hi, I have a question for any researchers out there. My great grand father Elijah Cagle b. 1848 in Ripley Co., Mo. d. 1911 Jackson Co., Ark. was the son of Charles Cagle b. 1791 NC and Margaret Hartwick b. 1832 TN. My question is : Does anyone know who Margaret's parents were? Thanks, Doug Cagle
Thanks to Nancy Jane Balmer for her letter about hemochromatosis and to Laurie Wier, referencing the web-site where I could learn about this problem. I am descended from Washington Ell Cagle and I suffer most of the health problems referenced at the site. At age 62, damage to my health is permanent, but I will request the test anyway. I forwarded both your letters to brother, Lloyd, and son, Christopher, suggesting they be tested, and hoping they can avoid the problems I have experienced. Thanks again, Clifford H. Rogers
Very interesting. I didn't know what it was, so I looked it up. See the following web-site for more info: http://www.cdc.gov/genetics/publications/hemoch.htm Thanks! Laurie Wier
