Hi Group I have put the photo's I have of Oak Ridge Cemetery on the Photopoint, I thought I was putting them into Doyle's Photo place, but I didn't get them there. This is my family group in Arkansas. Oak Ridge Cemetery is in Jethro , Franklin County, Arkansas, I guess there isn't even a post office anymore. There are alot more Cagle graves up there but this is all my cousin Caroline took, Caroline Bruer took the photos for me and they are great. I have some other cemeterys I would like to get on there with family members . I have to e-mail my cousin who sent me three cemeterys if she minds if I put them on . The photos on the Oak Ridge Cemetery can all be used , for your family trees, for who ever would like to have them, your cousin Nancy Jane . http://www.photopoint.com/

Hi Group I'm confessed: I know it is probably just me. sometimes with being Dyslexic the information goes over my head , and it takes me a little while to get it corrected. do I have the wrong one married to Robert Corn?? , Descendants of John (Jr.) Cagle Generation No. 1 1. Children of John Cagle and Jane are: + 2 i. Margaret Elizabeth5 Cagle, born June 30, 1804 in Henderson County, North Carolina; died September 11, 1884 in Henderson County, North Carolina. + 3 ii. William Thomas Cagle, born April 1806 in North Carolina; died 1885 in Henderson County, North Carolina. + 4 iii. Jacob Cagle, born 1812 in North Carolina. Generation No. 2 2. Margaret Elizabeth5 Cagle (John (Jr.)4, John (Sr.)3, Johan Dewalt "David" Kegel *2, (Leonhart Kegell ) Leonard *1) was born June 30, 1804 in Henderson County, North Carolina, and died September 11, 1884 in Henderson County, North Carolina. She married Silas Peter Corn, son of John Corn and Hannah Parr. Notes for Silas Peter Corn: Silas was an accomplished stone-mason, he prepared the tombstones for himself and his wife in advance of their death, all except for the actual date of death. Silas' dates were 9/15/1803 --6/9/1884; those of his wife were 1/30/1804 -- 9/11/1884. Silas appeared in a number of land transactions in the Henderson Co. region, one of which was a land grant which he took out on August 22, 1844 for 296 acres of land on the Devil's fork of Mud Creek in Henderson county. In the 1830 census of Buncombe Co., the family was listed with three young daughters; and, by the time of the 1840 census of Henderson Co. the number of children had increased to ten: 1830 Buncombe Co. NC Corn, Silas 56 NC Elizabeth 56 " Avery 19 " Elizabeth 15 " Martha 13 " Corn , Jane 35 " Joseph 11 " Arminta 15 " Notes: Prior to the 1850 census, above, at least two of the older children in the family, daughters Sarah M. and Margaret Eliza, had married and left home. By the time of the 1860 census of Henderson Co. silas and wife had only their three youngest children still living in their household; also living with them in that year were Jane Corn (belived to have been the widow of Silas Corn, Jr.) and her two children Judging from the 1830 census and 1840 censuses, it would seem that Silas Corn and wife may have had more children than those listed above; perhaps some of the daughters enumerated in those censes died before reaching adulthood. The possibility that there was a Silas Corn Jr. , who died as a young man and left a widow and two orphans. This information below is from Gary Cornn: Second Generation (Parents) 2. Wife was W. Anthoret Thomas 1810-1859 and she is buried in the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery. The Henderson Co., North Carolina Cemetery book on page 76 shows William Thomas Cagle 1806-1885 buried in Row 21 of the Dana church as mentioned. The Cemetery book on page 81 lists Anthoret Cagle 5 Jan 1810-1 Mar 1859 and buried in Row 22 of the Ebenezer church as listed above. Their children are listed in Vol. I as: Frank Cagle; John Cagle; Rebecca Cagle 1830; Robert Cagle 1831-1884 who married Rachel Morrison the daughter of James Morrison; Lavara Jane Cagle who married Robert Corn the son of Peter Corn and Mary Jones; Myra Cagle 1840; Elizha Cagle 1843; Anthoret Cagle 1844 (Cem. book shows her beside her mother d-1857); and William Cagle 1848. William Thomas Cagle's son, Robert (Page 52, article #77), was born in 1831 and died 29 May 1884; married on 31 Dec 1868 to Rachel Morrison born in 1835. Robert and Rachel had three children - John Thomas born 26 Feb 1870 and died 18 Aug 1916; Mary Etta born 1871 and died 1942 and married to Fred Orr on 2 Aug 1898. Orr's first wife was Lou Emma Cagle, daughter of William Cagle and Catherine Case. Robert and Rachel's third child was William Logan Cagle born 7 Nov 1873 and died 9 March 1937. Married on 14 April 1906 to Martha Barnwell born 30 Dec 1883 and died 8 June 1970. She was the daughter of Syrus Barzilla Barnwell who was born 28 Dec 1862 and died 20 Nov 1918 and Ellen Morgan born 10 June 1863 and died 27 Dec 1924 in Buncombe Co., NC. The Cem. book agrees with dates for Wm. Logan and Martha Cagle. They are listed on page 90, in Row 27 of the Ebenezer Bap. Ch. Cem. There are many Cagles and Corns in this cemetery as well as the one listed in Dana above. Children of William Logan and Martha Barnwell Cagle: Edith born 15 Mar 1907; married Horace Williams, son of James Williams and Cynthia Staton. Had been married 60 yrs. in Dec 1983. Guy Edward Cagle born 17 Oct 1909 died 7 Aug 1982; married first Clara Haydock 15 April 1912 and second Stella Hensley. Lawrence Alvin Cagle born 8 Jan 1912; married first Burgie Lee Corn born 4 Sept 1913 and died 1 July 1938, daughter of Jonathan Corn and Vesta Shipman, and second married May Elizabeth Corn, daughter of Joel Columbus Corn and Alma Lee Hill. Ella Cagle born 2 March 1915 whio married Doyle Hoots, son of Lewis Hoots and Lily Williams. Ethel Cagle was born 19 April 1918; married Nathaniel Ledbetter born in 1915 and died in 1948, son of Thomas and Fannie Ledbetter. They appear to have raised Mary Smith born 10 June 1929 who was the daughter of Martha's deceased sister, Annie Barnwell and Mark Smith. Mary married Clarence King the son of John King and Debbie King. Kegel-Cagle: The information on Leonhart Kegel is the same as you and others have said. The Heritage book Vol. II, page 182, article #64 then states that Leonhart moved his family sometime during the period of 1754-55 to NC. "In North Carolina the Kegel family lived at first on the upper Deep River near the Moravian settlement in which is now Forsyth County. The name was changed to Cagle. The first Cagle to be born in the South was probably Jacob Cagle 1755-1845) in Rowan County. Jacob was a soldier of thr American Revolution. It is assumed that Leonhart Kegel's sons purchased land in Cumberland County, North Carolina. Leonhart Kegel's sons were: David, who died in the 1780's; John, who died in 1799; and Henry, who died in 1802. The descendants of these men moved west and south becoming the ancestors of the Cagle family in the United States." This came from John G. Cagle's book with his permission according to the article. Article # 65 same page: Leonard Cagle (30 June 1798) did not follow his family into Tennessee but remained in Buncombe Co. in a section that is now Transylvania County. On the 1862 tax list for Trans. Co. he is listed as one of the largest land owners in the Davidson River community. On 19 Jan 1819, he married Mary Osborne b-6 Sept 1797, the daughter of Jeremiah Osborne (1772-1857) and Ann Blythe (1771-1837). He died at his home on 8 Aug 1866 and Mary died 16 June 1869. They are buried beside each other at the old Davidson River Cemetery (in Trans. Co. I presume). Also buried in the family plot are daughters Margaret, and Ruth Elvira, and their son James Henry and his wife Rachel. Children of Leonard and Mary Cagle: Nancy 1820-1898 married John Summey 1816-1886 Margaret 1822-1830 Charles H. 1824-1908 married Margaret Elvira Richardson 1825-1893 and moved to Mississippi. Anna Myra 1825 married Caleb Orr b-1822 Ruth Elvira 1826 Jane 1828-1909 married Joshua Orr 1824-1910. Jacob W. 1832-1910 moved to SC and married Alice Sloan 1850-1910. Rebecca Louise 1835-1897 married first Otis L. Fleenor and second Benjamin Merrell 1824-1901. James Henry 1837-1922 married Rachel Emma Young 1841-1923. Went to Tn and joined the Union Forces of the Third North Carolina Mounted Infantry Civil War. Served as Recruiting Officer. Returned home on 22 March 1866, married his childhood neighbor and sweetheart Rachel, daughter of Strawbridge Young 1797-1874 and Martha Ann Gash 1804-1885. Their children: Mary Lucrecia Ann 1867-1920 married Waverly Lenoir Morris 1871-1944. Beatrice Jenena 1869 married William N. Allison of Mills River. Alice Elenora 1871-1947 married Weldon H. English 1862-1931. Strawbridge Leonard 1872-1956 married Edith Smith 1877-1962. James Haskell 1875-1945 married Charity Leola Long 1870-1942. Milton Alley 1878-1954 married Sophia Zachary 1885-1962. John Cox 1880-1922 married Myrtle Allison 1884-1956. Henry Garfield Cagle 1884-1957 married Marjorie Lanning 1900-1936. This is every shred of info I have on Cagles other than cemetery listings. Hope it helps. Thanks again for your help in piecing together my line. Dorothy --part1_0.eaf3e9eb.254f178a_boundary--

There seem to be several Jacobs and this one seems to be called Henry Washington Cagle by others. What is his name? Both Henry W. and Jacob are shown as marrying Rachel Justus. I still don't know who Jacob's parents are. Sure hope you will straighten me out. You definately appear to be the expert on this family. I look forward to hearing from you. Many thanks, Dorothy --part1_0.ee236c6e.254f16fd_boundary--
Thanks so much Nancy and Doyle for your response and information. I have a lot of work to do. I appreciate you both. While I am at it, Doyle told us about the freepages at rootsweb. I posted a home page there and it is up and running. Most of the dates are from 10-15 years ago and reflect the consensus of opinion then. I have chosen to leave them as for now. The page is at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ghaulle/index.htm The every name portion lists all names in the database and where and when they were used. After I get in what Doyle and Nancy sent me today, I will update it. take care. Gary

Census records, are one of the few verifacation methods we have. As most of us know, this is were we get most of our dates of birth & parentage. There are some old Family Bibles, but most have been lost or destroyed. So all we can do is verify everything the best we can. For the most part, we are all doing a pretty nice job. Earl

Earl ========================================== Marriage Notices from The Southern Christian Advocate, 1867-1878 Issue of June 28, 1871 page 214 Marriages, Southern Christian Advocate, 1867-1878 In Varnell Station, Ga., June 15th, by Rev. W. T. Hamilton, Mr. Elijah Cagle to Miss N. L. Whittimore.
Hi list, My 4Gr-Grandfather Leonard Cagle b. 1780, son of Charles, had a son by his second wife named Francis Marion Cagle b. ca 1844. I have never heard anyone mention him or his full siblings. Does anyone on the list know anything of his children by Nancy, the 2nd wife. Thanks for any assistance. Gary
I'm returning to the list and, at Earl's suggestion, re-posting my Cagle line. I'd appreciate any proof or clues concerning early generations. 1. Unknown 2. Thought but not proved to be in my line: Henry Cagleb. 1821 SC m. Elizabeth Thomason b. 1827 DeKalb GA (her parents George W. & Sara Isom Thomason). Their 7 children: Sarah C. b. 1842 (m. W. P. Walraven; 2d m. N. D. Baker, Jr.) Rebecca A. (m. M. Couch), Jeptha, George*, Amanda (m. J. F. Jackson), Mary (m. Thomas Elrod), John 3. *George Cagleb. ? Murray Co. GA m. Mary Petty 4/1879 Murray Co. I'm returning to the list and, at Earl's suggestion, re-posting my Cagle line. I'd appreciate any proof or clues concerning early generations. Needless to say, they get confusing because so many Cagles had the same name (Leonard, Henry, George, etc.) Earlier-----? 1. Leonard? 2. Thought but not proved to be in my line; dates not proved: Henry Cagleb. 1821 SC m. Elizabeth Thomason b. 1827 DeKalb GA (her parents George W. & Sara Isom Thomason). Jay Childress wrote: _______________________ Hi List I was able to obtain the Whitley Co. KY certificate of Marriage of James Fox and Laura Cagle. This couple are my great grandparents and found several bits of information that confirm what I have been gleaned previously from census records. The couple were married 30 Sept. 1894 with Laura being listed as age 16. This matches with the 1880 census records of her parents Henry P and Catherine Cagle, then in Alexander Co/ IL, which list Laura's age as 2. James Fox's parents were listed as being Joe and Eliza Fox of Whitley County. Of interest is the signed note from H P Cagle to the Whitley Co Court Clerk giving permission for the underage Laura to be married. I will write it out errors and all as follows: Whitley County Kan Sept 29 1894 to County Clerk I autherrse you to Isue marage lisins to James fox and lara cagle She is under age but I give my concint I am her father. H P Cagle(all hand written and signed). A bit over 5 years later Henry, age 72, was living in the household of James and Laura in the 1900 census of Whitley Co. Jay Childress ========================================= Jay & List. Very nice for you to find your g-grandparents marriage. This is a good reminder also, for everyone to look for parental permission to marry. As in Jay's case, this proved what he thought was correct all along. Earl
