3. Hi Everyone, I just added a link from the Cagle's in The Civil War page to a web site called The Hunger Site. The link can be found on the bottom of the page under Favorites. By visiting this site and clicking on the Donate Free Food Icon the sponsors will make a donation to the United Nations World Food Program. The great thing is it costs you nothing. You can donate once a day, but no more than once a day. Consider visiting the link everytime you visit the Civil War Page and make your free donation. 1. Who is this George Cagle?
2. Does anyone know anything about the George Cagle, listed below with his family, as they appeared in the 1860 Census of Tishomingo Co., MS? Judging by the birthplace of daughter Nancy, they must have been living in Alabama for the 1850 census. Does anyone know, or have an idea, where they lived in Alabama? 3. Nancy & List, Very nice job on your photos you have added. Nancy, if you want to add some pictures at the Cagle website, go ahead. There are some posting formats there that allow you to add graphics, photos, and web links. However, I am unable to do this myself because I use webtv. We at one time back talked about adding some graphics at the Cagle website. Nobody however, wanted to take on the job. We had talked over things like an old ship, church, wedding couple, etc. So if anyone wants to do this let me know. Earl

My great-great grandmother is Martha Ann Cagle. I have her listed as the child of John D. Cagle born 9 Apr 1800 and Mary (Polly) Carter born 8 Dec 1801. In the information I have there may be a question as to which family Martha Ann Cagle belongs. Recently, I heard from another descendant the Cagle family took her in so she would not have to go on the trail of tears as she was Indian and her name was yellowfeather. I have no documentation other than what I was told. Martha Ann married William Pigroom about the year 1847 near Cleveland, Bradley, TN. They had two children, William and Mary. She deserted William Pigroom and went away with a man named Joe (Joseph) Mee to the state of Arkansas. It is not known whether she ever divorced William Pigroom and married Joseph Mee, but it us supposed she did. She later changed her and the children's names to Ragan to keep William Pigroom from taking her two children by him away from her. They all came back to TN and settled at Post Oak Springs, TN. Have you come across any information regarding this Martha Ann Cagle. If so I would be very interested in it or how I might find it. Thanks. 2. Hi Ruth I have looked at John David Cagle and Mary "Polly" Carter . I do not have her down on my list . Would love to here more about the family , There are story's of other Cagle families that have taken in an Indian child , and if you look at were they all lived right next to the reservations or on them . I come of of Charles Cagle , John David's brother. I belong to a Cagle Group of about 100 people, that we all share information and everyone tries to help out one another. Its lots of fun. It dosn't cost anything , you would get all the e-mail that everyone sends in. earl1947@webtv.net Just ask Earl to put you on the list. and you would write you comments to CAGLE-L@rootsweb.com . Do you have the all the children of John David Cagle ? and there descendents I have some. Maybe we could all work together and see what we can find. I would like to have my line of descendents and there brothers and sisters in my file. Your Cagle Cousin Nancy Jane I will forward your e-mail over to the Cagle group.

2. Earl Cagle
3. Dorothy wrote in part: ____________________ Kegel-Cagle: The information on Leonhart Kegel is the same as you and others have said. The Heritage book Vol. II, page 182, article #64 then states that Leonhart moved his family sometime during the period of 1754-55 to NC. "In North Carolina the Kegel family lived at first on the upper Deep River near the Moravian settlement in which is now Forsyth County. The name was changed to Cagle. The first Cagle to be born in the South was probably Jacob Cagle 1755-1845) in Rowan County. Jacob was a soldier of thr American Revolution. It is assumed that Leonhart Kegel's sons purchased land in Cumberland County, North Carolina. Leonhart Kegel's sons were: David, who died in the 1780's; John, who died in 1799; and Henry, who died in 1802. The descendants of these men moved west and south becoming the ancestors of the Cagle family in the United States." This came from John G. Cagle's book with his permission according to the article. _______________________________ Dorothy & List, Please allow me to clarify that besides the children listed, he also was the father of my direct ancestor, Leonard Cagle b. abt. 1730. This is also Tom Cagle's, and I am sure a few other members of this list's ancestor. Although I am not familiar with this book of John G. Cagles, I have read some of his newsletters. He as are many others, is in agreement with me as to Leonard, being one of Leonhart Kegel's sons. My ancestor Leonard Cagle, appears in the Moore Co; NC; census of 1790. He is shown living with his family in the Fayette District. He is shown with seven sons, two daughters, and his wife. Regards, Earl D.Cagle Sr. List owner : CAGLE-L

1. Re: Fwd: more Cagles (second message)
2. Nancy and List, In the message you sent, the info on Leonard and Mary Osburne Cagle's children seems to have a conflict with other info available. The book you ref. lists Nancy Cagle b. 1820, m. John Summey, however, the 1850 census lists Nancy still liven at home and age 18 yrs. old. I have Nancy b. approx. 1830, m. to my John Cox, and living in Greenville Co. S.C., as is her brother Jacob W. Cagle. Another interesting point to bring up is that James Henry Cagle a brother of Nancy and Jacob, named one of his son John Cox Cagle. I feel that sense there were more than one Leonard Cagle living in western N.C. at that time 1820-1870, there could be a mistake about these Nancy's. Does anyone on the list have access to a will of Leonard and/or Mary Osburne Cagle or possibly any other info on this family confusion? Thanks for any help. 3. Good Morning Cagle Cousins, This came this morning from Ancestry.com. This databse is free for search for the next ten days. Rarely do I find anything of use in these free database searches, but this one contains three Cagle surnames, and many others of my lines. Rather than copy them to you I will just provide the link and ask you to take a look. The survey is very well done. There may be other surnames of interest to you there. Best to all, Doyle ======================================== OAKLAND CEMETERY, ATLANTA, GEORGIA, PART I Established in 1850 and covering more than eighty-eight acres east of downtown Atlanta, Oakland Cemetery is the final resting place for over 50,000 people. This database is a transcription of headstone inscriptions from the cemetery. Each record provides the name of individual, date of birth, and date of death. Between its creation and 1884, nearly all persons who died in the Atlanta area were buried in this cemetery. Additionally, following its creation, other persons were taken from nearby church and family cemeteries and re-interred here. This first part of the collection contains the names of over 32,000 persons. For researchers of ancestors from the Atlanta area in the nineteenth century, this can be a useful source of valuable information. Bibliography: Grizzle, R. L. "Oakland Cemetery, Atlanta Georgia."
