The 1900 census has some very good data listed. With this one you know the month & year of birth. Now for you Georgia Cagle researchers, who is Henry's father & mother? Please read the instructions carefully, because not all records are available from the National Archives. Pension records of Confederate soldiers are maintained by the individual state. You will have to write an e-mail requesting Form 80 for National Archive records and once that form arrives send it in to get a copy of the actual record. 2. Earl Cagle
    3. Hello All, We now have David Cagle, back with us again. He had a slight problem with his server, but is back with us again. Doyle, any time you receive data on Cagle's from other lists, please pass it along. Sometimes it is those little tid bits of information, that will help. The amount of data on the internet for genealogy is very impressive. Compared to what it was like when I started researching on the net, it's outstanding. There are many places for everyone to research their genealogy. USGenWeb, sponsored by Rootsweb is an example of an outstanding resource. In 1995 or 1996 (can't remember which) Kentucky got things started. In just a span of a few short years, every state, and almost every county is online. Thanks to the many volunteers, we now have a vast resource of genealogical records online. My wife and I have transcribed cemetery records for our online state & county. So I encourage all of you to donate your time, and transcribe records for all to use. To some of you who are new to genealogy, and the internet, feel free to ask questions. There are several of us on this list, who would be happy to help. Earl

The dining room table with clutter was spread With pedigree charts and with letters which said... "Too bad about the data for which you wrote Sank in a storm on an ill fated boat." Stacks of old copies of wills and the such Were proof that my work had become much toO much. Our children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of sugarplums danced in their heads. And I at my table was ready to drop From work on my album with photos to crop. Christmas was here, and of such was my lot That presents and goodies and toys I forgot. Had I not been so busy with grandparent's wills, I'd not have forgotten to shop for such thrills. While others had bought gifts that would bring Christmas cheer; I'd spent time researching those birthdates and years. While I was thus musing about my sad plight, A strange noise on the lawn gave me such a great fright. Away to the window I flew in a flash, Tore open the drapes and I yanked up the sash. When what to my wondering eyes should appear? But an overstuffed sleigh and eight small reindeer. Up to the housetop the reindeer they flew, With a sleigh full of toys, and old Santa Claus too. And then in a twinkle, I heard on the roof The prancing and pawing of thirty-two hoofs. The TV antenna was no match for their horns, And look at our roof with hoof-prints adorned. As I drew in my head, and bumped it on the sash, Down the cold chimney fell Santa - KER-RASH! "Dear" Santa had come from the roof in a wreck, And tracked soot on the carpet, (I could wring his short neck!) Spotting my face, good old Santa could see I had no Christmas spirit, you'd have to agree. He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work And filled all the stockings, (I felt like a jerk). Here was Santa, who'd brought us such gladness and joy; When I'd been too busy for even one toy. He spied my research on the table all spread "A genealogist!" He cried! (My face was all red!) "Tonight I've met many like you", Santa grinned. As he pulled from his sack a large book he had penned. I gazed with amazement - the cover it read "Genealogy Lines for Which You Have Plead." "I know what it's like as a genealogy bug," He said as he gave me a a great Santa Hug. "While the elves make the sleighful of toys I now carry, I do some research in the North Pole Library! A special treat I am thus able to bring, To genealogy folks who can't find a thing. Now off you go to your bed for a rest, I'll clean up the house from this genealogy mess." As I climbed up the stairs full of gladness and glee, I looked back at Santa who'd brought much to me. While settling in bed, I heard Santa's clear whistle, To his team which then rose like the down of a thistle And I heard him exclaim as he flew out of sight, "Family History is Fun! Merry Christmas! Goodnight!" ------- My thanks to: <kleenmitchell@worldnet.att.net> who sent me the poem. --part1_0.aa36d776.257ea267_boundary--

Cagle's book that also mentions other children of Isaac and Tempie living in the household of Robert Hanna in 1910, specifcally Henry and Lady. The TIME magazine is from September 23, 1929. The article is very short and says nothing about his family. The article is mainly about football. As far as Red goes Earl, you may be right that it is a take off on Red Grange, because it does make a reference to him being the greatest halfback since Red Grange. Tom ====================================== Tom, Thanks for clearing this up for me & the list. His father Issac Cagle, was b.abt.1854, and he may be a son of Raleigh & Parthina Cagle. Maybe someone on our list has some information. Earl

    3. Tom & List, As a follow up to my earlier letter, there is some more data. I don't have much data on this family, but there is a marriage record at the LDS site: Raleigh J.Cagle to Parthina L.Golightly 22 Jul 1847, Marshall Co; MS. So this couple could not be the parents of, Christian Keener "Red" Cagle. Perhaps they were his grandparents. Anyone on the list know the children of this couple? Earl ================================= Tom Cagle wrote: <snip> ========================== Hi, I have received some questions about "Red" Cagle and thought I would send out some information for the benefit of all. I believe he was the son of Raleigh J. Cagle and Parthenia Dauze Golightly Cagle. He was from Calcasieu, LA and in the 1910 Census is listed as Keener age 6. Although not directly related, I remember my father talking about "Red" Cagle the great football player. Strangely enough, no one knows where the nickname red came from because he did not have red hair. About 3 months ago I purchased a copy of the Time magazine with his picture. I have a copy of that posted on our business website
