    1. Re: [CAGLE] Off Topic: Family Tree Maker
    2. Thanks to all who responded about this. No wonder I didn't remember what it was for. I've never "compared" my files but the GEDCOM I was looking at came from a relative who must have. Finally I can have some peace! I just hate it when I can't remember/figure something out. Samuel Jr2 French (Samuel Sr1) was born Abt. 1755 in Anson Co., NC, and died Aft. 1820 in Stewart Co., TN. He married Mary Wayne. She was born Abt. 1757. Notes for Samuel Jr French: GOODSPEED'S HISTORY OF STEWART COUNTY, PUBLISHED1896 The Baptist were probably the first organized religious denominations in Stewart County, and the first church in the county was built by them in about 1803. It was a rough unhewn log house, puncheon floor and board roof, and stood about three and one half miles east of Dover on the Clarksville and Dover road, in what is now the Seven the Civil District. The old church was used until 1816, when it was torn down and a new Log building much larger and commodious was erected on Lick Creek, in the same district which was in use up to 1835, when the congregation disbanded. Log churches were built by the Baptists between 1810 and 1820 on Cub Creek in the second district, on Saline Creek in the Fourth District, on Crockett's Creek and on Hurricane Creek in the Eleventh District. The early Baptist Ministers were Revs. Travers Moore, James Haynes, Samuel Ross, Frank Moore, William Turner, John Morgan, Samuel French, and Robert George, all of whom were men of more than ordinary ability and eloquence for their day. 1. [CAGLE] Re: children of Joseph Roland Cagle & Rebecca Ingram
    2. I've been trying to clear up some discrepancies in my files for a couple of days. I'm questioning the birth years on a couple of Joseph Roland's children and hope someone will have a source for them. The 1850 Cherokee Co, GA census lists Mildred (M.A.) as 10 years old. It lists Sarah (S.) as 12 and Isaac Jackson (I.J.) as 8. The 1860 census shows Mildred 20, I.J. is 18 and Sarah's not listed. Lee Cagle lists (at Ancestry) the 1840 census as showing I.J. as 2. I compared it to the birthdates and it just adds more confusion. Okay - Everyone at Ancestry is showing Isaac Jackson's birthdate as Dec 21, 1840 (but lists no sources). Even my Uncle Bill listed it that way when he sent a photo to John G. for the Cagle journal (again no source). But that date cannot be right if he was 18 in 1860 and 8 in 1850. If Isaac Jackson's date is correct then his older sister Mildred's birthdate of Dec 15, 1840 in question since they couldn't have been born 6 days apart in the same year! So - does anyone have an answer and possibly a source? I'm pretty sure his birthdate should be 1842 but at this time I have no proof either. Thanks! Donna

This makes it easy for me to know which of a group of children is/are my ancestor/s. There are times back in the Medieval time period when a person may have multiple siblings for ancestors. I have as many as four in some families of siblings. If cousins married cousins in this country it could still happen in rare instances even today. The * also makes it easy when searching through the alphabet of people in the file. Ancestors pop up all over the place. After all, when you have thousands of people in your file there is no way that you can remember each and every ancestor, especially when there are often several people with the same name/s. Try it. 2. The star I'm referring to isn't on every name or like an asterisk. In fact, it isn't in the name "field" at all but rather on the yellow part of the page - like where the "s" shows when you have a source or the "a" shows when there's alternate info. Guess I'll go to the FTW board and see if I can find out. Now it's become a quest! 2. David Cagle
    3. John, Below is some information on the Clontz-Long family. I want to give credit for this research to Betty K. Price, Deborah Gaudier and others. Clontz, Clonts, Clants, Glantz is interchangeable. As you will note, my g/g/g/grandmother, Catherine Clontz Polk, 1798-1870, was a sister to Jeremiah Clontz Jr. (1786-died after 1860) who married Catherine Cagle (surname not known by me or Clontz researchers). The daughter of Charles T. Polk and Catherine Clontz Polk was Eliza Catherine Polk, 05/16/1816-01/08/1873. Eliza Catherine Polk, ca 1838, married John Cagle, 01/01/1813-01/09/1879. John Cagle was the son of Henry Cagle, Jr. 1780-1857 and the grandson of Henry Cagle, Sr., 1760-1837. Henry Cagle, Jr along with two brothers, George Cagle and Charles Cagle, and the Charles T. Polk family moved from the Mecklenburg-Cabarrus Co. area of NC to Hardin Co., TN between 1820 and 1830. Henry Cagle Sr. came to Hardin Co., TN between 1830 and 1833. There is absolutely no proof here, but, I suspect that Catherine Cagle who married Jeremiah Clontz, Jr. was the daughter of Henry Cagle Sr. We will need some proof. David ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Henry Long. Born ca 1740 in VA. Henry died in VA aft Apr 1803; he was 63. He was married to Anna Catherine Pence. Born in VA. Anna Catherine died in NC. 2. Thank you for your response to my posting. Actually, I am not researching the Willsons; however, Elizabeth Ann Willson, b. 1842, married Benjamin Alexander Cagle, is my ancestor. And, yes I understand Benjamin is Indian from his mother Sarah Bird. This has not been proven as far as I know. If I can be further help with the Cagle line, let me know. Lee Cagle Okla City Descendants of Elizabeth Ann Wilson Generation No. 1 1. Elizabeth Ann3 Wilson (James M2, George1 Willson) was born 22 October 1842 in Georgia, and died 09 April 1909 in Florence, Winston, AL. She married (1) William Bart Pugh. He died Bet. 1860 - 1865 in Killed in Civil War. She married (2) Benjamin Alexander Cagle September 1869 in Winston Co., AL, son of James Cagle and Sarah Bird. He was born 15 August 1850 in Winston Co., AL, and died 25 April 1920 in Whitewell, Marion, TN. Notes for Elizabeth Ann Wilson: Benjamin married Elizabeth Ann "Eliza" Wilson (41, 42, 43, 44) in Sep 1869. Eliza was born on 22 Oct 1842 in Georgia, died on 9 Apr 1909 in Florence, Lauderdale County, Alabama and was buried in Murphy's Chapel Cemetery, Florence, Lauderdale County, Alabama. The cause of her death was locked bowels. General Notes: Arvel Tubb visited Murphy Chapel Cemetery in '96 and again in '97. The grave of Elizabeth has a tombstone which reads: "IN MEMORY OF E.A. CAGLE WIFE OF B.A. CAGLE BORN OCT. 22, 1842 DIED APR. 9, 1909" The caption below that reads: "Sleep on dear wife and take your rest, God called you home, He knows what's best." She is buried in Grave #132 as listed by Mary Ellen Alhstrom & Rhonda Goode, surveyed 24 April 1980. The grave next to hers is that of J.J. Whitlow, buried in grave # 133. (Father of Tempie Ann & Mary Henson) She is buried near Columbus and Tempie Cagle, as well as Tempie's sister, Mary and her husband Thomas Henson. Murphy Chapel is a community Church with a cemetery behind it. There are almost 600 graves in this cemetery. Uncle Elmer says that Elizabeth Ann Cagle died when Bessie was about 2 years old. Bessie was born Mar. 27, 1907. Arvel gave directions to the cemetery as approximately 22 miles north of Florence on Highway 20. Go to right on County Rd B, 6/10ths mi and it is on the right. It is a small Community Church with the cemetery in the rear. 3. This John Cagle, Jr. was a son of John & Pheriby (Rogers) Cagle. He was a brother to my GGgrandfather, Lot Rogers Cagle. I recently discovered that I had several of his children incorrectly listed. I had one of his children listed as Ettazner. Ettazner was actually, Ellezann or Elles(sp) Ann "Ella" and was erroneously listed with her parents,John & Martha A. (Bain) Cagle, as Elias A., 2, male. John's Civil War Pension file listed the 4 children of his first marriage then crossed them out with numerous lines, making the l's appear as t's in Ellezann's name. 1. [CAGLE] Re: Searching for Bio Father!
    2. Roger, I would recommend you write Texas Dept of Vital Statistics for a birth certificate of your father. This will give you the names of his mother and father. I am sure I can give you any information you would want regarding ancestry once you obtain your grandparents names. In genealogy, a birth date of 1927 is relatively recent so, unless you find a direct relative, you probably won't get any information for other sources. There are also, birth and death registers for Texas on rootsweb.com. You might try searching this source. Lee Cagle Okla City P.S. I am sending this to our Cagle research group in hopes someone might have the information you are seeking. On Sun, 23 Nov 2003 08:09:50 EST [email protected] writes: To whom it may concern.
