Denice, Sorry. I don't have a Jack Cagle with wife Clara Turner. I do have a Jack with wife Claire; however, the other information did not check out. Let me know if you discover any new information. You might write for a copy of Jack Cagle's death certificate. That should give you the name of his parents and perhaps I could help you then. Lee Cagle Okla City P.S. I will keep your inquiry and if I find something to help you I will let you know. I am also, sending a copy of this correspondence to our research group in the hopes someone else might have the information you need. I have 25 Jack & Jackson Cagles in my index. I will need more information if I am to help you. Where and when was he born. What was his wife's maiden name? Who are his children, and when/where were they born. When you are first begining, it is best to begin with you, list all the statistical data on you, i.e., when/where born, married, etc., then to your father, when/where born, names of his children and when/where they were born if you know, then to your great grandfather. Try getting all the information you can on each generation as you move back through you ancestors. Hello everyone, I have a question about the wives of Leonhart and am confused about a couple of postings by Nancy Jane. Hi Nancy! We know the first wife was Maria Elizabetha who died. They had a child Maria Margarita. Records at the baptism of Johann Theobald in 1726 indicate that his mother was Susanna and Leonhart was the father. Next, in 1728 in Trippstadt, Leonhart is named in a baptismal record as a Godparent to Maria Elizabetha Bushung daughter of Johan Andreas Bushung and his wife Maria Elizabetha. Here is the record as posted by Nancy: Baptismal register 1728, taippstadt, the 14th day of March 1728, Johan Andreas Bushung, and his wife Maria Elizabetha , a daughter named Maria Elizabetha. God parents Leonhart Kegel, of mehlingen, Germany and Maria Magdalena, Johann Henrich Schmalenberger's young wife Veronia Phillipp. My question is who is Maria Magdalena and why is she,and not Susanna, associated with Leonhart as a Godparent to this child? What am I missing? Thanks! Tom Cagle, Saegertown, PA
List, Does anyone connect with James C Cagle, b. 24 Jan 1909, d. 23 May 1985 who married Ruby T. Unknown, b. 8 Sep 1918 and d. 18 Jan 1998. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/0JH.2ACEB/661.1 Message Board Post: My Grandfather Howard Melvin Kagle was born in Seabrook. I have loads of information on the whole family. E-Mail me at [email protected] for details.
Glad it helped you. Here are some additional notes I have collected from various sources: Mr. J. Jack Cagle provided the following sketch to the Cagle Journal and was published in May 1985: "My knowledge of our ancestors is limited to my grandfather, Henry Pinkney Cagle, who practiced medicine in and around Rockwood, Roane Co., TN. My father was only seven years old when grandfather died in about 1896. My father died in 1949 and was John B. Cagle. He was a coal mining engineer and moved around in Kentucky, NC, WVA, and eastern TN, in pursuit of his profession. He spent his last several years in Chattanooga, TN. I came to Florida in 1958 and worked with NASA as a Safety Engineer until my retirement in 1972. I am 69." Henry was a farmer and "Root Doctor" and in one census was listed as a clergyman. Henry was listed on the 1850 Census of Lawrence Co., AL living with his older brother, Isaac and his family. Both, Henry's wife, Mary and his sister, Dovey M were residing with Isaac who was a Baptist Minister. Henry followed his brothers, to Missouri, and Illinois. This line is being researched by Jay Childress <[email protected]> Jay states he has a note written by Henry to the Whitley Co., KY Court Clerk approving of Laura's marriage to James Fox who is Jay Childress' ggrandfather. Henry is listed in the 1900 US Fed Census of Whitley Co., KY living with his dau Laura and son-in-law, James Fox. 1850 Lawarence Co. AL, with son, James. Henry and Mary were divorced. James with his family is living next to his father, Henry Preston and his new family for the 1880 Census. James 28 , was the son of Henry P. by his first wife. Henry P Cagle, was the son of Henry & Celia Cagle of Warren County, TN, and the brother of Ignatius W. Cagle, 1812-1889, of Lawrence Co. Mo. and Isaac R Cagle, of 1870 Johnson Co., IL. In 1850, these brothers lived in Morgan and Lawrence Counties, Alabama, moved to southern Illinois, then by 1870 was living in Scott County, Missouri, directly across the river from Alexander Co., IL where he had moved by 1880. In 1989 the Cagle Newsletter had a very nice article about Henry Pickney Cagle and his wife Susanna E. Cagle. It traces his history back to the Revolutionary War Soldier Jacob Cagle and beyond. As this is my assumed line of Cagle decent, this article was a welcome find. However there is something that does not fit with this Henry P Cagle being in the Jacob Cagle line as developed in the article. First, the 1900 census of Cumberland County Tennessee has Henry P. Cagle age 63; (birth month and year is missing), born in TN, and both parents born in TN. His occupation in the article is given as physician but the source of this information was only family oral history. The 1900 census has him listed as a clergyman. At he Archives of the State of Tennessee, I request a search to see if there may have been a licensed physician by this name, but none was found. Also of importance is that the date of the enumeration is listed as June 7, 1900. Second, the 1900 census of Whitley Co in Kentucky we find Henry Kagle living with his daughter, Laura, son in law, James Fox, and grand son, Joe. This Henry Cagle is listed as being age 72, born in Nov. of 1827 in TN and his parents were both born in NC. His daughter Laura was listed as being born in IL with both of her parents being born in TN. The date of the enumeration is listed as June 9th of 1900. . I had initially thought that these two men may have been one in the same and that he was counted twice while visiting his daughter in Kentucky. However, as the dates of the two enumerations are shown to have been recorded only a day and one-half apart, I doubt that in 1900 it would have been feasible to have made such a trip in such a short time. Also, I have a copy of the permission slip when Lauras father gave permission for his underage daughter to marry. It is signed H.P. Cagle. On 24 Aug 1865 a man listed as H.P. Cagle married Catherine Warner in Johnson Co. IL. Catherine who was born in Tennessee was his 4th wife. The 1880 Census of Alexander Co, IL, next to Johnson Co. IL, list Henry P age 53 and Catherine 37 with their youngest child listed as Laura M age 2. This would match the age for the 16-year Laura who married my great-grandfather James Fox in Whitley County on 9 Sep 1894 and it would also match the location of her birth. Family history tells us that Lauras middle name was Magnolia, which would also match the Laura M. as listed in the 1880 census. In addition, my grandfathers youngest sister, Mae, is still living and she said her mother Laura spoke of her siblings Will, Charles, and Ellen as well as half-brothers Jimmy and Johnny. These names match well with the census of 1870 and 1880 in which the H.P. Cagle family is listed. As I noted above, the 1989 article lists the Cumberland Co Henry Cagle as a physician while the 1900 census lists him as a clergyman. To add to the confusion, the 1870 census of Scott Co in Missouri (across the Mississippi from Johnson Co IL) has a Henry P. Cagle as a Physician. I contend this is the same Henry as in the 1880 census in IL as the name of the wife in both cases is Catherine, and the names and ages of the children match perfectly with the 1880 IL census. Moreover, family oral history notes that the Henry who was in Whitley County KY in 1900 was highly regarded as a root doctor or herbalist, but certainly not a physician. I can see how genealogical researchers may have confused these two men. But, for all of the reasoning listed above, I conclude that the Henry P. Cagle in the 1900 census of Cumberland County TN and the Henry of Whitley County KY are different men. Also I contend that the Whitley County KY Henry is the H.P. Cagle who was the husband of Catherine Warner and the son of Henry Cagle and the grandson of Revolutionary War Soldier Jacob Cagle. Jacob and his wife Celia were both born in NC and later moved to Warren Co TN where H P Cagle was born. This also matches the 1900 census record of the Whitley Co, KY Henry relative to the place of his birth and that of his parents. The fact that the Laura listed in the 1900 census of Whitley County, KY is noted as being born in IL and that her parents were born in TN only adds to my conclusion. As H.P. Cagle's father Henry died prior to the very important 1850 census, I have not been able to develop a DAR proof of the connection of Henry P. to Henry or Henry to Jacob but a preponderance of the circumstantial evidence leads me to believe this to be the case. I would welcome comment on the above reasoning. Dr. Joseph Childress It appears to med, Dr Joseph Childress has done considerable research and I would tend to go along with his theory. The blue star indicates that you have compared your file with files at Family Tree Maker files for possible matches and the ones with the stars are names that have matches at the FTM site. At least that is what I seem to remember about them. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, December 01, 2003 4:52 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [CAGLE] Off Topic: Family Tree Maker I have a question for anyone who uses Family Tree Maker. What does the little blue star after a person's name on the family page mean? I know I've wondered about that before but I can't remember if I ever found an answer. Lee Cagle, brings up a good point in his posting below. I suppose we all have been a little lazy siting our resources. There are hundred's of archived messages in our Cagle list, and I feel for the most part dates, places, and events are as reliable as possible. However, I am suggesting that we add foot notes at he bottom of our postings stating our sources. Being a democratic list I feel this needs to be voted on. If the majority is in favor then we will start doing this. I feel a simple addition such as this example will be good enough : Footnote : This family data is from the 1820, 1830. and 1850 Sevier Co; Tn; census. The dates of birth and death on Martha & John Smith, are from there tombstone in the Sleepy Hollow Cemertery. This I feel will eliminate some problems we have had in the past. If you have no recourse then state were you got your data. I.e. Posting made by Earl D. Cagle Sr; made on 12-01-03. Of course all ideas are welcome and appreciated. Cagle, Joseph 010001 - 22001 pg. 186 This would indicate one male child born before 1840 and that would be, George Washington Cagle, b. abt 1836. Mildred Ann was born 15 Dec 1838, not 1840. This is not my direct line so, I have no source documents, but these are the dates provided to me by other persons. They also, seem to jive with the census records of 1860: 1860 Census Cherokee County, Ga. Fair Play Dist. : Canton P.O. Cagle Joseph 52 GA. Farmer Rebecca 46 GA wife Mildred 20 '' dau (should be 18 yrs) I. J. 18 '' son (Isaac Jacksan ) Jane 16 '' dau Leonard 14 '' son Nancy 12 '' dau Lodusca 10 '' dau Chas J. 8 '' son Melissa 4 '' dau If I may help you further, let me know. In the event someone has source documents indicating the dates I have are wrong, please let me know that too.
