Thanks, Earl and everyone for making this the best list. I don't know about anyone else, but because of this list, I know so much more about my family than I would have known otherwise. I had not even heard of such a thing as the Indian Application for Compensation, or of Jacob Cagle's Revolutionary War Pension Application. Thanks to everyone who has helped me. 1. [CAGLE] Re: Anderson
    2. You are probably onto something here. James Anderson died in Bourbon Co., Kansas as did his wife Elizabeth Cagle. James was of an age that he could have been the father of your Leonard, but I have nothing to prove this. James Anderson's father was Isaac Anderson who married Barbara Dyer, they had at least the following children; however, this may not be all of them: James, Robert, Leah, William, Luke and John. I hope you find this helpful. If I can be of further assistance, let me know. 1. [CAGLE] Merry Christmas From Hardin Co., TN
    2. David Cagle
    3. Earl and List, I find all Cagle researchers to be very helpful and have enjoyed being a part of this list for the past few years. I certainly appreciate the hard work of Earl, especially, and others. I would like to wish everyone a very happy holiday season. My Cagle family, descendents of Johan Theobald "David" Cagle, b. 1728, have been living in Hardin County Tennessee for just over 180 years. It appears that descendents of two of David's sons, Henry Cagle Sr and Valentine, live in the county today. Best wishes, David Hardin County Tennessee Cagles 1. Charles Cagle The first Cagle of record in Hardin Co. TN was one Charles Cagle who, along with others, as shown in Record Book A, January Court of 1823, was appointed to lay out an maintain a road from Brown's Ferry on the Tennessee River to Able Oxford's place. The Ferry site was located just south of what would become the Shiloh Battlefield. Able Oxford's, today, is located in McNairy County. On September 23, 1834, George Cagle, brother of Charles (?), sold 100 acres in Hardin Co. TN. Charles Cagle was witness to the transaction. In 1837 and 1838, Charles Cagle bought and sold 87 acres in McNairy Co., then disappears form the record. 2. George Cagle ca 1780's-1840 George left Cabarrus Co., NC for Hardin County TN in the early 1820's. On May 31, 1826, George Cagle entered 100 acres of land in Hardin County. When George sold this land in 1834, Charles Cagle, above, was witness to the transaction. George was married to Elizabeth Freeman and had a large family. Their children were: John S. Cagle, b. ca 1827 Charles, b. ca 1830 Rhoda, b. 1830 Nancy C. b. 1834 Mary L. "Polly," b. 1838 Deborah Tabitha, b. 1840 George and his family moved to New Madrid Co., MO in 1838 where George was killed by a falling tree in 1840. His wife and children moved back to Hardin County. 3. Henry Cagle, Jr. 1780-1857 Henry Cagle, Jr. sold his property in Cabarrus Co. NC in 1828. By 1830, he is enumerated in the 1830 census of Hardin County. He first obtained land in Hardin Co. in 1837 near other tracts that were obtained by his brother George and his father, Henry Cagle, Sr. Henry Jr's frist wife is unknown. His children were: John Cagle, 1813-1879 Debba Cagle Smith, 1821-1872 George Cagle, 1827-after 1880 Sarah Cagle Hulin, ca 1830-? Eliza Cagle Bishop, 1833-? Susan Cagle, b. ca 1835-? Henry Cagle, Jr. also moved with most of his family to New Madrid Co., MO in 1838. His first wife died somewhere along the line and Henry married a second time to Rebecca _______? 4. Henry Cagle, Sr. ca 1760-ca 1838 Henry Sr. moved from Montgomery Co., NC to Hardin Co TN after the 1830 census and before 1833. In that year, he appears on the Tax List of Hardin County. Henry was married to Elizabeth(?) Wagoner. It is not know when she died. Henry does not appear in New Madrid Co. MO records with his sons. It is assumed he died ca 1838 in Hardin County. 5. Henry Cagle, b. 11 July 1793 Two other Cagles arrived in Hardin County about the same time as Henry Sr., above. These Cagles were Henry and his son James who both appear on the 1833 Tax list of Hardin County. Henry and James do not remain long in Hardin Co. and move to DeKalb Co., AL where Henry appears in the Census there. Henry and James both appear in the 1850 census of Hancock Co., AL, then in Winston Co. Henry is a son of Valentine Cagle who died in Warren Co., TN ca 1815. 6. Valentine Cagle, b. 1853 AL Valentine Cagle and a large family moved into the northwest corner of Hardin County between 1900 and 1910. Before moving to Hardin County, this family had lived for several years in adjacent Wayne Co., TN, and apparently spent one year in OK Indian Territory. They originated in Winston County AL.

    2. Earl Cagle
    3. My wish is that everyone on our Cagle List, have a very Merry Christmas. This has been another very good year for our list. This list was started by myself in November 1998, and there are some of you who have been with me from the beginning. Thanks to everyone for making this list one of the best Rootsweb sponsors. Of course the list wouldn't be possible with out the great folks at Rootsweb. They went for many years on their own and relied on donations from list administrators, and other nice folks. They now are sponsored by Ancestry, and I encourage all of you to use their many genealogical resources. This is a pay for use company but it in turn keeps all of Rootsweb's great resources alive. To all the many experienced genealogical researchers I thank you for helping all the new folks. Your years on our list and overall experience make it much easier for others. To all the new members who joined this year if you haven't posted your Cagle line yet, please do so for all of us to share. Now for some interesting Cagle list data, these are figures of the number of postings each year : 1998 ~ 230 1999 ~ 1767 2000 ~ 745 2001 ~ 1036 2002 ~ 898 2003 ~ 755 *As of this date ________________ Total : 5431 message posted to the Cagle List By far 1999 was our best year for number of messages posted. Of course 2003 is not quite over yet:) Again thanks to all of you Cagle researchers, and "Merry Christmas" Earl Cagle [email protected] "Join The Cagle List Today"

    2. Mike & Mary Cooley
    3. There is an error out there that I believe I started. The Civil War pension file of John Cagle, Jr. listed the 4 children of his first marriage; which John or someone then crossed out with several lines. I deciphered John & Martha A. (Bain) Cagle's 2nd daughter as "Ettazner" and may have listed her as a male. I just recently discovered that "Ettazner" was actually Ellezann Cagle. I hope that the below family translates as I have set it up - if not it will be a confused mess. John Cagle, Jr. (sometimes referred to as John N.C. Cagle, Jr.) was brother to my gg-grandfather, Lot Rogers Cagle. 3. This data is from Rootsweb's SSDI and shows Jack Cagle's, that match your geographical area. There were a total of twenty (20) Jack Cagle's, in this database. These appear to be a match to the family in question. The earliest date of birth of Jack A. Cagle 12 Dec 1867, seems to be the family patriarch he I would say is the grandfather of the Jack Cagle, in question. These men I would say are all related to one another.
