    1. Re: [CAGLE] MATHTA JANE CAGLE
    2. Mollie, Thanks for remembering me. I am still missing information on some of Martha Jane's siblings, but have so much work to do in my attempt to find all the Cagle descendents of Leonard. This is a daunting task and I don't think I will ever have it completed, but maybe when I get it as far as I can go, someone else will take over. It sure will make it easier for those who want to know about their roots without having to dig a piece her and another there. None of this is documented other than by census records in most cases, but it will be a good guide for a newbie. 1. Re: [CAGLE] Mollie Cagle
    2. Earl and List: It was on the basis of these three paragraphs that NSSAR approved Ashley's membership with regard to Henry Cagle's service. An apparent reference to the use of his farm as a muster ground, in June 1776, is seen in Manly Wade Wellman's book "The Story of Moore County" (1974), pp.22-23. The text cites a "Henry Eagle" on Bear Creek, but this is most certainly a miss reading of "Henry Cagle", since there is no record of Henry Eagle having lived in this region: "Two stalwarts for the Whig cause, Philip Alston and Thomas Matthews, were commissioned colonels in the State Militia and enlisted their neighbors in armed units to scout the Deep River country for those who still dared to side with King George. Around the first of Jun, Alston Called for a muster at Henry Eagle's on Bear Creek. Mounted details went out looking for recruits, and Tory sympathizers faded away...." Henry's service during the Revolution was probably in the Militia, which gave support to the regular Continental Troops. On 19 August 1873, Henry presented a Claim to the State of North Carolina for compensation in the sum of 13 pound, 11 shillings and 4 pence for his service in the militia during the War. This can be found in Vol V, page 55, Folio 3, NC Revolutionary Army Accounts, Claim #1854, Militia, 13-11-4. Also cited are his brothers Leonard and John Cagle. I have considerably more notes on Henry Cagle, his live and descendents which I or Ashley will be happy to share with any who needs it. I have a letter that Pink wrote to his sister during the Civil War. There's a great photo recently published in the Winston County Journal of the Cagle clan on the occasion of C.H. Cagle's 80th birthday in 1904. Shows my grandfather, Albert L. Catledge when he was about nine. Also, Louis Taunton, Winston County researcher extrordinaire, has recently published a book of excerps of the Winston Signal, a newpaper of the mid-late 1880's. He's working on compiling one beginning 1890 or so. Contact me according to your interest.

    2. Earl Cagle
    3. Donna & List, This is a good idea and it makes it easy for everyone to understand what is going on. However, not everyone likes doing it this way. Some use the "Reply All" method that includes the original message. This way as long as you read the reply and the original message your aware of the query. Also some like to use the " Cut & Paste " method. You can cut the part of the original message you are making reference to. Either way you choose one method needs to be used. If you just hit "Reply" then you are leaving out important data that needs to be referenced to.
