    1. Re: visit to Tennessee
    2. Janice, Thanks for pointing this out to me. I made a stupid mistake when I reviewed the 1880 US Fed Census of Preston Alexander. John Elwood Cagle appears as a resident in the household of Preston and immediately below him was Mary Nunley with the notation sister in law. Without stopping to think, I assumed she was the wife of John Elwood; however, she is the sister of Sarah, Preston's wife. John Elwood Cagle was idiotic and never married. Yes, Lula Mae was listed in this same household at age 8 and listed as a daughter; however, if you would like I will attach her to her biological parents and show her as a foster child of Preston. Let me know how you want her shown, but I think we should both list her the same, don't you. I don't have an Edward Cagle who married Sarah McFarlin, can you give me more details, please. I do have Samuel Green Cagle who married Cora Nancy McFarlin. Her parents were John and Sheilah McFarlin. Lee you have listed on one of your sights that Mary Nunley was married to Elwood Cagle. How do you know that? Could he have been married to another woman and had a child with her? My ggrandmothers death certificate lists Edward Cagle and Sarah McFarlin as her parents. She is Lula Mae Cage raised by Sarah Nunley and Preston Cagle. Your cousin, Janice George

    3. Below is some information on the Cagle & Thomas families. Earl ____________________________________________________________________________ _ In the Aug term 1852 of the Union County Court of Pleas and Quarters, Jacob Thomas registered a petition. Desiring to build a mill on the Rocky River, Jacob Thomas needed and sought the use of land belonging to Caleb Irwin. The mill dam would connect to this land that was situated in Stanly County. The petition requested that four freeholders be appointed to value an acre of land that belonged to Caleb Irwin. This petition was made final with the following written statement: "Prayer granted ---- - Deft made a party". Numerous small debts led to an order on 13 Jun 1856, in which a levy was placed on Jacob Thomas's 200 acres of land. In this order, the land was described as lying on the Rocky River, adjoining the lands of John R. Thomas, Jas. R. Baucom, and others. The land was to be sold in July 1856 in order to settle debts against George Cagle, Henry R. Prichard and others. Note this land was described as adjoining John R. Thomas land. In the census, Jacob Thomas lived beside John R. Thomas. ============================================================================ ===== B. Sarah Thomas b. 1835, married 10 Jan 1853 in Stanly Co.
