This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Today on the History Channel, in "The Real West" series, they'll be showing the story of the Mountain Meadows Massacre from 6pm to 7pm today. Don't ask me whether that's Eastern time or Pacific time or both, I haven't quite figured that part out yet. :) The little told part of this story, and I don't know if they'll cover it on the special, I haven't seen it yet -- is that these settlers were mostly bound for the central valley. Many had families waiting for their arrival in Tulare county, and some of the families settled in Fresno county, too. For more information, you might want to check out the Mountain Meadows Association's website. Like I said, I haven't seen it yet, and can't tell you which side of this VERY long scandal in Utah history the film makers landed on, but there have been efforts to cover this up and paint it in a different light for well over 100 years. 128 men, women, and children were murdered in 1857 while they were enroute here to join others in their family and from their communities. I've put a link to the association's web site below: http://www.mtn-meadows-assoc.com/ There's also information at: http://www.mtnmeadows.org/ -deb Christensen
