Highlights: Francis Marion Cook was born in Van Buren county, IA on Nov 10, 1852, the son of James Montgomery and Elizabeth (KILLEBREW)COOK. James was a native of OH and Elizabeth of IL. James died in Willows, CA. Francis was the second eldest of their 6 children. In 1868 the family came to CA, crossing the plains with mule teams, and settled in Solano County. Mr. COOK began business in Colusa County, establishing a meat market. After that he went to Tehama County. In 1885 he moved to Fresno and planted a vineyard. He sold it after 6 years and went to Orsosi, planting in raisin grapes. He was married in 1874 at Willows, CA to Sarah Elizabeth CARTWRIGHT, and they had: Francis Elmer, James Earnest, Virgil and Edward (who died at 10 years of age). Mr. COOK is a Good Templar and member of the Farmers' Alliance.
