Hello List, I am quite confused here and would like to ask for your opinion I have two married Budge sisters that I have found on the 1930 US census. The problem is a step daughter / niece who I believe is one and the same person is stated as living with both of them! In Berkeley, Alameda, California EDWARDS - Jesse C - Head - Ohio Mary P - Wife - TURNER - Alice P - Step Daughter - 17 - California In San Francisco, CA JACOBS - Hyman - Head - Jean - TURNER Alice P - Niece - 17 - California Any help or advice would be truly appreciated! Best wishes Heather
Check the date the two census records were written - I would bet that Alice was visiting Mr. & Mrs. Jacobs at one time period and living in her home at the other time period so was counted twice even though there is only one of her. <G> Happened a lot in the old days, especially since the census take was paid by the 'head' so to speak. Any names he/she could gather meant more revenue for them. I know in my husband's line the same family was counted twice in one census year by the same recorder. The census taker either was a little absentminded or feathering their nest.
