He was 71. Born Sept. 7, 1933, in San Francisco, he was a third-generation Californian. The son of Joseph Philip Augustine and Mary Potter Johnson of Hayward, he was an only child who lived in Hayward, San Mateo and Stockton. He graduated from Hayward High School in 1952 and received his bachelor's degree from San Jose State University in 1959. In 1961, he received his teaching credential in industrial arts. He served in the Korean War from 1954 to 1956, serving in the wheeled vehicle ordnance depot at Nancy, France. He was "Soldier of the Week" in February of 1955. He married Patricia Louise Moore May 4, 1957, and had two daughters, Perri Cathleen (McMullen) and Victoria Shannon. He lived in Davis from 1963 to 1981, where he worked at PG&E General Construction Service Center on L St. He was also active in the Unitarian Church of Davis. In 1978, he was transferred to PG&E in San Francisco and moved to Oakland in 1981. Retiring from PG&E with an early retirement, in 1987 he moved to Point Arena on the Mendocino Coast in April of 1987. He moved to Oakhurst in 2001, in the Sierra Foothills between Fresno and Yosemite. In Oakhurst, he became involved in the Positive Living Center. He was residing in Coarsegold at the time of his death. His family says he had a lifelong interest in anything with four wheels, with or without a motor. Over the years, he bought and sold many cars and a few motor scooters. He was proud of his possession of a MGYB Sedan, which he bought on a trip to England in 1974. He traded the YB for an MGA and then traded that for a Jaguar XKE, which unfortunately was totaled. He also owned a 1960 Morris Minor Sedan. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Louise Moore Augustine of Coarsegold; his daughter, Perri Cathleen Augustine McMullen and her husband Ronald Max McMullen of Piedmont, Okla.; daughter Victoria Shannon Augustine; and grandsons Stephen Max McMullen and Matthew Augustine McMullen of Piedmont, Okla. A private service was held at his home in Coarsegold. Donations may be sent to the Unitarian Church of Davis.
