Not exactly sure how that came about. My family is going to Switzerland this summer and want to go looking for information about Johan Emil Stocklin as he came to the US from Switzerland although he was actually born in Germany but he left Switzerland from Basel which is close to the German border I am told. He did landscaping, he built fences, he could do the plumbing and he had his three daughters out there right behind him learning how to hammer in a nail,” said his daughter, Charlotte Guglielmoni Hinman of Redding, CA. Guglielmoni, a longtime resident of Fontana, died December 10 of pneumonia at his daughter’s home in Redding. He was 82. He was born August 12, 1922 in Burrel, CA. In his teens he moved to Riverdale where he worked on his family’s dairy farm. Guglielmoni joined the Army during World War II and served with the infantry in the Philippines and Japan. He married his wife, Betty, in 1949. “My dad used to like to joke that they met on roller skates. He was quite the roller skater; he used to dance on skates. Mom didn’t want to go out with him because she didn’t skate, but he was persistent,” said Hinman. “After they were married he kept skating with friends, but she never learned how to skate, even though he tried to teach her.” Guglielmoni moved to Fontana in 1952 after hearing about a job at Kaiser Steel Corp. “He found out about the position through his father-in-law. It was an opportunity to have a better job, better benefits and better pay,” said Hinman. He worked initially as a laborer in the mill, but later transferred to the open hearth division. Guglielmoni worked at Kaiser Steel for 32 years before retiring in the early 1980’s. He moved to Arkansas and lived there for about 10 years before returning to Fontana. “My grandfather became ill and they came back out to take care of him. Any time he knew there was a need he stepped in. We always had an adopted grandmother because he was always looking out for some elderly person who lived on the street,” said Hinman. Guglielmoni attended Free Will Baptist Church in Ontario. Survivors include his wife Betty Guglielmoni of Fontana; two daughters, Sharon Ann Weber of Big Bear Lake, CA and Gayle Lynn Calcaterra of San Luis Obispo, CA; his grandchildren, Lisalynn Mills Reed of Bellvue, WA, Erik Jeffrey Mills of Eugene, OR, Stacy Roman of Mentone, CA and Amanda Weber of Big Bear Lake; and seven great-grandchildren. Services are set for 11 am today at Ingold Chapel, 8277 Juniper Ave., Fontana. Interment will follow at Montecito Memorial Park, Waterman Avenue and Barton Road in Colton. Brenda I am taking a look for you--without success yet. Might you have any other kind of info about them--like possible origins prior to California? Or any approximate ages/births? Did Grandpa come to California as well? That might help eliminate some of the other Hogues. There are many in California. Any other hints you might have? JAL
