Our daughter died in July. When we were making the arrangements through Sunset Funeral Home, the director informed us we could do a simple obituary for free or pay for extras just like taking out an ad. The prices started around $200.00. He said that $800.00 was about the highest he had ever seen. We opted for the simple one that gave her name, age, place of employment, town she lived in, date of death and that her services were handled through them. Anything bigger would have been the beginning of charges.

Here is what you requested: FRANCIS C. KAUFMAN "MIKE" Born on August 7, 1910, Mike entered into Heaven on August 19, 2001 at the age of 91. Mike is survived by Velma, his wife of 64 years and their children; David and Linda Kaufman of Iowa, Duane and Sharon Kaufman of Illinois, Dorothy and Mel Cline of Fresno; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. It is hard and sad to believe that so little information is included in an obituary. And to have to pay for it. How tacky. I think in most places, the death notice is the only think printed by the newpaper free. The obituary is sent in by the family, and the newspaper charges for it....and it is quite expensive, so I guess some families send in only the essentials. Patricia
