Hello. I am hoping that someone can help me to find a grave site in Fresno or direct me to a site that can. Are there any sites with on-line records? I am looking for Paul Edward Cox, born March 15, 1918 in Harrison County, Indiana, and died Sept 14, 1994 in Fresno. I don't know the name of the cemetery in Fresno where he is buried, but I do know that he has a headstone and a Govt. stone for Service. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Diana

A newspaper article in 1878 in the Fresno "Republican" indicated that Andy was running "Morrow House" in Fresno in the 1870s. I suspect a connection between Jesse Morrow and "Morrow House" which was probably a hotel or baording house. Would appreciate confirmation or any relevant info.
Diana: Let me make some phone calls to cemeteries real fast for you today, ok? We have a death date, there's only SO many cemeteries in town, how hard can it be? ::Grin:: There's very little in the way of Fresno County records online, but a few (mostly small and/or old) cemeteries have records online listed at the Fresno County GenWeb site: http://www.cagenweb.com/re/fresno/cemetery.htm deb At 06:02 AM 2/7/02, you wrote: >Hello. I have all four citations. However, I could not find anything in Fresno County book you mention. >From index: Murphy, Daniel 34 Murphy, Newt 197 Murphy, Perry 109 but no Michael J. Several years ago you looked up a Michael J.Ryan and his wife Jennie Murphy Ryan's obit for me. Now I am on the hunt for their children. They had 5 kids. Richard F. who all I know about him was that he was in fresno in 1932. Loraine Genevieve Ryan born 9-08-1903 in MN died 1-11-1981in Fresno. Edwin C. Ryan born 6-25-1895 in North Dakota Died 11-08-1963 in Fresno County (Sanger) Robert E. I don't think he died in Fresno. And last but not least Michael J. Ryan born 7-3-1897 died 8-1-1970. I think that there may be info about him in the 8-2-1970 and 8-3-1970 Fresno Bee, as they were sited as a references for a bio that was done for the family home at 1034 Cambridge Ave. His wife was named Rosamond. Also I know that you only signed up for obit searches, but maybe you know someone who could help me with my next question. The same bio that cited the fresno bee for 8-2 and 8-3-1970, also cited "Fresno County in the 20th century vol 2" author is Clough. I was wondering if you could direct me to someone who would look up the Michael J. Ryan and family in that book? Once again many thanks, looking forward to hearing from you! Sincerely, Nancy Brada

If you are trying to find a person you could look for them through the DMV. You contact them and they looks through their records to see if the person you are looking for has a drivers license and then they contact the person and if the person wants to contact the person that is looking for them, they can do so. I'm sure you have checked the SSDI. I did and saw no Dale Francis Yoakem on the list, unless it is wrong I would assume your father is still living. I just thought I'd tell you about the DMV program here in CA. I wish you the best of luck in finding your father. Judy/Fresno
We would like to invite you to re-visit our website, The POORHOUSE STORY (a clearinghouse for information about 19th century American poorhouses) at http://www.poorhousestory.com We just posted an image of a picture postcard of the FRESNO County Infirmary (poorhouse.) DIRECTIONS: At the homepage (link above) click on POORHOUSES BY STATE, then on CALIFORNIA on the table of states. At the top of the page, just below the first pictures, you will see a link to the entry (with a yellow NEW arrow). (NOTE: If you have visited the site recently, you may have to click on REFRESH on your browser to see the new information.) There are other pages on the site which may give you some interesting perspective on poorhouses. They are off the homepage and include: the HISTORY page and the LETTER TO GENEALOGISTS as well as FEATURED ARTICLES. There are great tips for researching poorhouse records for yourself on the RECORDS page; and you might want to subscribe to our (almost) monthly newletter (which you can do in the lower right corner of the homepage). The information on our site will only grow through the submissions of generous readers. If you would like to e-mail me ... please do so off-list because I cannot maintain subscriptions to as many lists as we post messages on. (You can use an e-mail link off one of our web pages.) We hope you enjoy the site! Thanks, Linda Crannell (aka=The Poorhouse Lady)
